[[PRESS RELEASE

REOPENING OF SCHOOLS AFTER LIFTING OF GREATER GABORONE ZONE LOCKDOWN

Following the lifting of Greater Gaborone zone lockdown by Government, the Ministry of Basic Education informs parents, learners, the public and all relevant stakeholders of the following arrangement;

 Schools in Greater Gaborone Zone have been inspected for COVID-19 compliance. Another round of inspections will be undertaken on Saturday 15th August 2020 to ensure safety and readiness of schools to receive staff and teachers. The opening of schools is conditional on COVID-19 compliance.

 Following confirmation of compliance of schools, all staff in the Greater Gaborone schools will report for duty on Monday 17th August 2020.

 All completing classes (Standard 7s, Form 3s and Form 5s) in Public /Government schools within the Greater Gaborone zone will return to school on Tuesday 18th August 2020.

 Non completing classes in Public/Government schools will return on Tuesday 1st September 2020.

 Public/Government Pre-primary classes and learners with profound and multiple disabilities countrywide will remain at home until further notice as earlier announced.

 All National Mock Examinations are rescheduled to run from Monday 24th August 2020.

 Private schools will make their own arrangements on school reopening subject to COVID-19 compliance protocols. Inspections Teams will also inspect private schools on Saturday, and again on Sunday, to confirm compliance prior to opening.

As schools reopen, strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols is mandatory in order to ensure that schools remain safe for learners and staff. More frequent monitoring of schools compliance will be undertaken. The following minimum requirements among others should be adhered to;
*Frequent hand washing.
*Temperature screening at entrance and registers for learners, members of staff and visitors.
* Proper wearing of masks by all.
*Social distancing in classrooms and staffrooms.
* Students and staff should refrain from crowding while waiting for any service at school or outside.
