POSITIONING DESTINATION BOTSWANA FOR THE FUTURE

During the NextGen Tourism Business Expo & Forward-Thinking Summit 2025, Mr. Justice Ofentse, Acting CEO of the Botswana Tourism Organisation, delivered an official opening address that underscored Botswana’s tourism sector as a key pillar of economic diversification and sustainable development.

Key Highlights from His Address:

Botswana recorded over 1.18 million international visitors in 2023, with 2025 projected to surpass pre-pandemic levels.

Top markets, including the US, Germany, France, and Canada have already exceeded 2019 arrivals.

Emerging opportunities identified in India, China, Israel, and the Gulf region.

African markets demonstrated remarkable growth, with arrivals tripling between 2021 and 2023.

Strategic priorities outlined: market and product diversification, visa reforms, improved air connectivity, and bold destination marketing.

Mr. Ofentse emphasized that Botswana’s true strength lies in the harmony of its land, people, culture, and values, making the country not just a place to visit, but a place to connect, transform, and return to.
