Sunday, October 11th, PAC's scheduled fun fly at Clayburn Park. I left home about 9:30 with clear skies and relatively warm temps. I got to the field and had to add WIND. I sat at the field from about 9:45 till 11:15 and the wind didn't slow at all. Ii know there are models that probably could fly but I don't think it would have been any fun. Larry B. came by with the equipment and went to take his dog for a walk. Nobody else came by.
We still have one more try 2 weeks from today. See you then.

Last weekend, October 3rd and 4th, was the Worldwide Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon.
Saturday is for the VGMC at Rice Mill Road in Richmond. I did not attend it as I had another family event, but I understand there was 10 pilots that made 28 flights.
Sunday was PAC's day at Clayburn Park in Abbotsford. We only had 7 pilots but two of our Ringmasters were electric. This means they can be tuned to fly, in my case, 8 laps, a "legal" flight length plus and not a 1oz. tank that flies 20 laps and therefore we get many more "flights".

Paul and "Partner" flew both days. Ken flew for the first time in lets just say a long time, at the NS with BS so as he did not have his own Ringmaster I loaned him mine. He did just fine!

Yesterday was the PAC fun fly at Clayburn Park. There was a sparse turnout. We already knew that Barb, "the club photographer" and her husband Larry B. had a previous commitment so Larry just dropped off the field equipment. THose that did make it were Brian and Wade F and myself to start. Paul B. (Lefty), Jora M. and Denis C. came later. We did have one "guest", Colin, another member of the Riverside flyers. There were 2 new Ringmasters to maiden. Both were built by Brian and belong to himself and Wade. Wade flew first. Take-off was something to behold with lots of up and down in the first lap. After that he settled it down to a good, complete flight. He said that after the engine quit it had noo glide and only a tiny amount of up resulted in a stall and nose in. There was no damage. From what I saw it appeared to be tail heavy so wade took weight off the tail for th enext flight. Unfortunately he also took the tail wheel off so opted to not fly it again. Brian had weighted both Ringmasters the same so he also adjusted the tail weight.
We were able to talk Colin into flying the trainer. He had one flight, 4 laps, before he was too dizzy to continue and I took over.
Brian flew his Ringer, twice, with no problems. Both Ringmasters flew very nicely. Paul had his Ringmaster and ran the engine in the pits but when he went to fly it he couldn't get the engine to start so he didn't fly.
Denis had his, repaired, Ringmaster. As usual it flew well.
Jora and I just sat around and solved world problems, B. S.ed.
I think Brian got some pictures so I'm hoping that he will include them in the "comments".
Remember that next weekend is the world wide Ringmaster fly-a-thon! As for PAC, we have two more fun flys at Clayburn Park this year. Be there!

The 19th Annual Worldwide Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon will be Oct 4th and 5th
The Fly-A-Thon Make Up Weekend is October 10th & 11th!

All you need in order to participate in the Fly-A-Thon is to fly some form of a Ringmaster on the first weekend of October and report your flights. Just fly five laps to be counted as an official flight.

Yesterday, September (lucky) 13th was the latest PAC fun fly. The weather was cloudy with very little (virtually none for most of the day) wind. Almost perfect for flying. I say that because if there is no wind you are often flying through the wake of the previous maneuver.
We had a disappointing turnout of club members with only Larry B., Wade F., Brian F. and myself there. Barb came later. BUT that doesn't mean it wasn't a good (successful) day. Firstly, Bob M., of the Riverside Flyers R/C club came out. He had been a control line flyer some 65 years ago. I had the trainer out so with a little encouragement he had a go at it. I took the plane off, had him take the inner portion of the handle and then when I couldn't keep up with the laps he said "I've got it" AND HE DID! When he landed he was a tad dizzy. After a while, with some "coaching" as to the intricacies of, that plane's, take off he flew 2 more flights as if he had never been away from it. Larry B. was testing the flight lengths on his Ringer for the up comming Worldwide Fly-A-Thon. He has the new tank figured out to where he will get 12 to 15 laps per flight. Wade tlew his donated "trainer" 1 flight then couldn't get it started again. When he went to clean it there was no fuel in the tank but as he lifted it there was a lot of fuel coming out the tail end - he has a tank problem. Results are upcoming. Brian flew both his Shoestring and Twister. On his last flight with the Twister he saw the effect of the wing warp. Chris (Partner) S. and Norm B. of the B C Aces (freeflight club that flies near Clayburn Park) dropped by for a visit. Norm is the reason I want to get the Tempest build completed, he worked on them just after WW2.

Yesterday at Clayburn Park we (PAC) were able to fly a "rain-out" date and what a day to do it! You could not get better weather!
Larry B., Brian and Wade F. and I did set-up and got our planes and flying equipment ready then sat around swapping lies".
Larry had his Ringer with a new (tiny) tank and did testing for the up comming Ringmaster Worldwide fly-a-thon. (I think) He had 20 laps on the tank. As you only need 6 laps for an official flight he can still get away with a partial tank, a lot better than the 4oz. tank of 2 years ago.
Wade had the donor "trainer" and had one flight before the engine came loose. Brian had both his Shoestring and Twister and flew both. Still have to get that twist out of the Twister wing.
Marcel G., a member of the Riverside Flyers R/C club, who was at the Mission Wings NS with BS came out and he did 3 flights on our "trainer". Another 3 or 4 and he will be on his own. He admits that he is not a "builder" and we all told him that that will change if he flys control line. He joined the PAC and says he will be back for our regular fun fly next week.
Keith B. brought his .19 sized Cosmic wind look-a-like and the 1/2A
Lil Wizard. We opted for a longer set of lines, the ones he used last time were 24 feet and that was WAY TOO SHORT even getting Larry B. dizzy. Brian has a spool of 30 Lb. test "Spyder wire" (a non stretch fishing line) so we made a set of 40 feet. That was much better. Both Keith and Wade flew it and Keith even - wait for it - did a loop! Dave D. and Jora M. each brought their Ringmasters for test flights before the fly-a-thon.
Paul (Lefty) and Janet B. were surprise attendees. He is not driving yet so I told him that if he wants to go to the VGMC luncheon I would pick him up.
Hube S. brought his Vector 40 and his Score with the purpose of passing them on to others who would use them. I was sorry to see that as he was probably, the best stunt flyer of the club. Paul took home the Vector and Keith, the Score. Keith called later in the evening and said that because of his Score he had passed on the Goldberg Cosmic Wind he had just finished building to Ken, another member of Riverside that wants to get back into control line.
Brian's sister-in- law's family, Brant, Kim and Gunner, stopped by to see control line for the first time. She was interested.
Larry B. was asking what the totals were for Ringmaster fly-a-thon for 2025. They were 9305 flights by 506 pilots.

Yesterday Mision Wings held another "fun fly" but with a twist. The purpose of the day was to give the flying experience to family, friends and any "general public" members that came by. While this was the brain child of Stan and Douglas and originally ment as a radio control "buddy box" event, I just had to stick my control line nose in. Douglas did the legwork and said that this was MAAC's first "buddy box" event so there were MANY hoops and hurdles to go through with Nav Canada - it took three months. The three "buddy box" instructors were Stan and Evan on fixed wing and Darren on rotary wing (heli). They gave several people their first experience with radio control.
I went to the field thinking it would be too wet to fly my electric planes so I only took the trainer. Complete with the wrong batteries. Douglas rescued me by having 2 of the correct size (thank you!). I got three to try control line, Stan, Evan and Dennis. I made a test flight on the recently repaired "trainer" then Stan, yes the "buddy box" expert, tried. We took it off and after a couple of laps he had complete control with me following around in case he got dizzy. He completed the flight with a good landing. Next was Dennis with the same sequence and result. He knows where and when PAC flies and may just show up. Lastly was the other "buddy box" expert, Evan. Evan is also a full scale pilot instructor. It was the same result and with him not being dizzy he did a second solo flight right from takeoff to landing. It was only a total of 6 flights but they opened eyes as to how easy it wasn't. In the end I would be confident to let the three of them take the trainer and go have fun. As a side note Douglas had also successfully flown the trainer.

Yesterday was a regularly scheduled PAC Clayburn fun fly. Vancouver had been hit with a severe thunderstorm overnight and in Abbotsford it had rained most of the night so it did not look good. Ten o'clock was a "no go" but the forecast looked good for the afternoon. Brian was the first there, just in time to see a black bear run across the field. Larry B and I were not much later. All set up and then we sat around and yaked. Barb came about an hour later and Keith B. followed soon after. Keith had three planes, his Cosmic Wind for it's maiden flight, a 0.19 sized (scratch built) Cosmic Wind "look alike" and a Lil Wizard. Larry B. did the maiden then Keith flew it's second flight. All looked good so on to the 0.19 size. This had been maidened before by Denis C. So Keith did a solo on it, again all looked good. Finally Larry flew the Lil Wizard. Everything went well, except being a 1/2A the speed was fast and furious. Keith didn't think he could keep up with it so opted not to fly it, good decision. Brian flew his Shoestring twice with the only mishap being a broken prop on the second landing. It was nice to see the "club photographer" out again. She will add pics to the comments.
