Just heard Shawn Bath from Clean Harbours Initiative on The Broadcast talking about lack of government funding this year. Help out with a donation if you can, he sure did a great job when him and his team were here in Burgeo a few years back. Our ocean deserves all the help it can get.

Sending best wishes for a productive first day on the water to all the Lobster fishers and Safe Home.

AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES Q&A SESSION

This past week we discovered vase tunicate (Ciona intestinalis) in the waters around Burgeo. As this is the first documentation of this aquatic invasive species in this region we want to ensure all fishers, recreational boaters, and residents are fully informed about this discovery.

Please join us online as Dr. Cynthia McKenzie with DFO will take your questions on what is this species, how might it of got here, why be concerned, and what now?

Click here at 3pm Monday, November 20th to join the meeting. https://teams.live.com/meet/9394017142686?p=KqlEpeqkg3jCTLXz

END-OF-LIFE FISHING GEAR COMMUNITY COLLECTION EVENT

It is traditional and efficient to store unused fishing gear on stages or sheds near the shoreline. Unfortunately during extreme weather events this gear can be washed into the sea where it causes a great threat - ghost fishing and entangling marine life. It is challenging and costly to retrieve when washed out to sea.

We are pleased to provide fishers in the Town of Burgeo region with an opportunity to have their end-of-life fishing gear recycled, at no cost to them. Old traps, pots, cages, ropes, and nets can be dropped off at the parking lot next the Burgeo Firehall between 10am - 4pm, Tuesday, November 21st.

This service is being provided with support from The Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation - CCFI and the Fishing Gear Coalition of Atlantic Canada
