Same shop. Two VERY different reasons for needing to keep the wheels turning. 😂🔧🍦

On one side of the shop, we’ve got a 1996 Volvo getting some love before heading out for a holiday in the mountains. Front slack adjusters, brakes and a wheel seal are getting taken care of so the only surprises on the trip are the good kind. 🏔️🚛

On the other side…

🍦 THE ICE CREAM MUST FLOW.

This ice cream truck came in with a no-start Onan generator, so one of our techs is buried in diagnostics trying to bring it back to life.

Because apparently at Truck Doctor we don’t just keep trucks moving — we’re now responsible for preventing ice cream-related emergencies.

Heavy trucks, trailers, electrical, diagnostics… and occasionally protecting Calgary’s frozen treat supply. 😂

Just another day at Truck Doctor.

Sometimes you can fix the deck… and sometimes the deck has to leave the chat. 😂🔥

This Flynn Canada knuckle crane truck came into Truck Doctor with a deck that had put in its time — rotten wood, rusted steel, and well past the point of another patch job.

So we gave it the full reset.

🔥 Cut the old deck completely off
🔧 Fabricated an entirely new deck
⚡ Welded the new deck onto the truck
🎨 Finished it off with fresh paint
🪵 Installed all-new decking

From the first cut to the finished product, we caught the whole transformation in a timelapse.

There’s a lot of cutting, welding, grinding and fabrication squeezed into this video — turning a tired, rusted-out deck into something solid and ready to get back to work.

Thanks to Flynn Canada for trusting Truck Doctor with another one of their trucks! 💪
Hit play and watch the old deck disappear.

Some days in the shop are impossible to explain... and that’s exactly why we love them. 😎🔧
Today’s lineup at Truck Doctor:
❄️ A custom sleeper A/C setup for a customer who had the factory bunk A/C removed. We installed a new evaporator in the bunk, and now it’ll cool the sleeper down like a refrigerator.
💻 Chasing down an ABS warning light on a Hino. A little diagnostic work revealed the culprit wasn’t an expensive sensor—it was dirty tone rings preventing the wheel speed sensor from getting a clean signal.
🔥 Trailer CVIP repairs with the torch out, because sometimes the only way forward is through a little heat and steel.
🚛 Another trailer back in service after repairing the leveling jacks and bringing a seized landing gear back to life.
No two days are the same around here—and that’s exactly how we like it.
If it has wheels, air brakes, wiring, hydraulics, or an engine... chances are we’ve worked on it.

When your trailer works as hard as your excavator, it’s bound to need a few upgrades. 🔧

This Dozr Construction trailer came into Truck Doctor for its CVIP inspection with two common complaints:

🚜 The excavator tracks were slipping at the apex of the loading ramps, making loading more difficult than it should be.
🪣 The excavator bucket was also wearing into the trailer deck every time it was transported.
Our solution?

✔️ Installed larger, heavier-duty steel ramp grips to give the tracks better traction during loading.

✔️ Fabricated and installed a heavy-duty steel wear plate on the deck to protect it from bucket damage and extend the life of the trailer.

A CVIP is more than just checking boxes—it’s a great opportunity to solve real-world problems and keep your equipment working efficiently.

Thanks to Dozr Construction for trusting Truck Doctor with another one of their trailers.

Friday progress report... and yes, the transmission is supposed to be on the floor. 😄🔧
This Dozr Construction truck started as a service call after it refused to shift into gear without shutting the engine off.
Our tech diagnosed the issue in the field and determined it needed to come back to the shop for a clutch replacement.
Fast forward to today: the transmission is out, parts are coming apart, and our team is making good progress. There’s still work to do, but we’re well on our way to getting this truck back on the road.
Sometimes fixing a truck means taking a big step backward before moving it forward. 💪
Have a safe weekend from the crew at Truck Doctor!

🚛🔧 Shop Spotlight: Aztec Spray Systems 🔧🚛

This 2015 Ford F-550 from Aztec Spray Systems rolled into the shop for its CVIP inspection and a transmission service while it was here.

We like customers who believe in preventative maintenance—it’s a lot cheaper than finding out what was wrong from the side of the highway. So while we were making sure everything passed inspection, we also gave the transmission a proper flush to keep things shifting smoothly.

Nothing too exciting to report, which is exactly what you want during a CVIP. No horror stories, no “come look at this” moments, just good maintenance keeping a hardworking truck on the road where it belongs.

Big thanks to Aztec Spray Systems for trusting us with their fleet.

🚛 Front End Friday 🚛
We’ve got quite the lineup this week:
🔵 The blue Volvo from Nightmare Racing is in for a new radiator. Judging by the name on the grille, we’re trying to keep the nightmares on the race track and out of the cooling system.
⚪ This white Western Star stopped by for its CVIP. Basically a physical exam, except instead of asking you to cough, we check your kingpins.
⚫ And this grey Chevrolet Top Kick came in for a 4WD swap because apparently having only two wheels pulling wasn’t creating enough bad decisions.
Three trucks.
Three different jobs.
One shop full of mechanics pretending we know where that 10mm socket went.
Happy Front End Friday! 🔧

There’s something beautifully ironic about putting a fresh tr**ny into a hot dog truck 🌭🔧

The old girl was cooked, so we slid a new one in and got this wiener wagon ready to serve glizzies and bang gears again.

Next: a 1981 Dodge Ram that started life as a postal truck before deciding frozen treats were a better career path. We installed a new steering column because after 45 years, the old one had more wander than a rookie mail carrier.
One truck got a new tr**ny.
One truck got a new column.
Both are now better equipped to deliver questionable nutrition to the masses.

Just another week at the shop, keeping Alberta’s hot dogs hot and popsicles cold.
