Flash Express Courier was featured on Global News today discussing the real impact soaring gas prices are having on Calgary small businesses.

Our owner Drilon Beqa spoke with Global News about what it's like running a courier fleet right now. Just a few weeks ago, filling up one of our vans cost about $80. Today? Over $130 — and we have eight vans on the road.

"We've implemented a fuel surcharge for our customers which also fluctuates based on the fuel charges," Drilon told Global News. "It's not good for us, it's not for them because now they're paying more money for fuel charges on their invoices."

Even with the surcharge, it doesn't cover the full increase. "The surcharge does cover a little bit, but it doesn't cover the whole thing. So it's still costing us money to fill."

We do everything we can to keep our surcharges as low as possible for our customers. When gas comes down, our surcharges come down. That's always been our approach — we're in this together.
With oil prices jumping over 60% in just a few weeks due to the conflict in the Middle East, businesses like ours across Calgary are feeling the squeeze. Economists are saying the average household could see an extra $1,000 in costs once everything trickles through the supply chain.
