That feeling when the Ferry finally announces boarding, you drive onto the boat, and settle in for the journey.

I've been extremely lucky in my life. This is especially true when it comes to road trips (and somehow always managed to be the passenger princess, too).

I have one friend that is my favourite road-trip buddy. We've now driven over 6500km together across Canada, seeing 6 provinces multiple times. We met when I was living in St. John's, and he drove me home when I left (even if I didn't know it was my drive home at the time).

In fact, in 2021 he called and asked "do you want to drive to St John's and back with me?" Of course I did. Who wouldn't? Did I care it was going to be freezing and we were going to be sleeping in the SUV? Nah. We got this. It was cold but we did it. The coffee and toutons never tasted better than on a cold, rainy morning in a park somewhere.

So I drove to Barrie, and we set off East together, where we met. We spent a very short visit, and turned around and headed home. It was awesome. I have so many happy memories from this specific trip with that specific friend. If you read this, I love you and I appreciate our friendship đŸ˜‰

I know you can't tell from the video, but if you're ever in Port-Aux-Basques, I need you to go look at the rocks where I am in the video.

You'll have a lot of time to look around when your Ferry is delayed.

The rocks are phenomenal. Before we started our road trip we had a discussion about the amount/size of rocks I was allowed to bring back (it's a good to set realistic expectations for the neurodivergent rockhounds in your life) and let me tell you... this place... this place had me considering rock smuggling. I refrained and took only pictures - however I left my water bottle somewhere by accident, I suspect the gift shop. Bummer, I liked those stickers.

But yes, the rocks - migmite, feldspar, mica, quartz, garnet... just absolutely riduclous. So shiny. Goes well with the ocean. Especially in the sun.

I just posted about loving rocks - but you always have to check them for friends!

I like rocks. No, that's an understatement - I love rocks.

I also love water.

This might be the best place for people like me?

Newfoundland is a hard place to leave from the West Coast. Not physically, which can be true (I'm looking at you Port-Aux-Basque Ferry delays!), but also because it is absolutely gorgeous.

Newfoundland is a hard place to leave, especially from the West Coast. I was once told by an old friend that the West Coast of Newfoundland makes Frank Sinatra look like a hobo in a suit. I didn't know what he meant until I got there.

The rocks, the trees, the water, the sun, the cliffs, the hills... all of it. Perfection.

Magic exists all around us, but you might have to stop and look closer to notice it.

Noticing the magic around is us is the difference between a tree and world of life. My favourite is the little Shrek ear looking mushrooms, maybe faerie cups, but there was also this beautiful moss that made the entire base of the tree look like it's own forest.

The more you zoom in, the smaller the mushrooms and moss are - everything is everything, but bigger and smaller.

Holy seagulls, Batman.

When I used to live downtown St. John's the seagulls would wake me up frequently, but being away from the island for years erases the reality behind the memory.

The seagulls where I currently live, although small in numbers, catch our attention usually before a storm. When the seagulls come in to land from the river, you know you should head indoors.

Near the fishing boats? all bets are off. It's just bird o'clock.
