Well… it’s official. After shutting down in early December, in preparation for moving across country, I will be back in service as of February 1st, now based in Alberta. 2 hours due east of Red Deer, and 45 minutes from the Saskatchewan border, Scott Transpo is back and ready to roll. Looking forward to working with you.

This is a practice that needs to stop. Using your hazards to warn others of an immediate danger is one thing. But driving with them on because you don’t feel safe in the conditions creates a more hazardous environment.
If you don’t feel comfortable driving, park it. Don’t put others at risk.
Think of it this way…
If a serious incident happened because you were driving with hazards on, because you thought it was unsafe to be driving, how would a jury of your peers find you in a trial, with that you knowingly drove in unsafe conditions?

Escorts… There’s a significant lesson in this article below. One that may be missed without looking at the photograph at the bottom.

Any one of us could find ourselves in this situation while doing our duties as an es**rt.

1) Looking at the photo, what direction are the steer tires facing?

2) Not indicated in photo, but how close was the patrol vehicle parked behind the truck?

If you find yourself in the position of being the bullseye, park far enough behind whereas your wheels that you intentionally turned toward the ditch will allow your vehicle to steer itself toward the safety of open space instead of into the truck ahead or into traffic.

It’s a small practice, but one that could save your life.

UNDERSTAND THIS:

When you are operating as an es**rt vehicle under requirement of a permit, and the permit maximum weight and dimensions don’t match the load being moved, no matter how much insurance coverage you pay for, it will not cover you in the event of an incident.

Is that worth risking everything?

Do it right the first time.
