Call out to Small scale transportation company’s- PUB plans to INCREASE Fuels in Rural NL!
I just listened to former St. John’s Mayor Dennis O’Keefe on VOCM Open Line talking with Paddy Daly about a proposed new formula by the PUB that would create a permanent increase in fuel in rural NL, and his disbelief that folks haven’t kicked up here in rural NL about these imminent increases.
Public Utilities Board of NL is proposing a new fuel pricing formula that will ultimately lead to increases in gas, diesel and home heating fuel in rural NL, creating a greater economic disparity between rural and urban NL. “It’s basically the farther away you get from the major metro zones, the more expensive it is to get fuel there," said Jo-Anne Galarneau, executive director and board secretary, PUB NL.
This is the premise for the proposed increase.
Firstly, I wasn’t aware that the PUB was looking to change the price formula. As a small courier / business owner, my partner Stephanie Curtis and I have been laser focused on our operations the last few weeks and not on the news. It’s difficult to keep up on policies and regulations that affect our business when we are constantly putting out fires- a common trait of small business owners.
Secondly this proposed new formula will drastically affect our business, where one of our biggest expenses is fuel- it’s a constantly moving target that is impossible to budget for, which makes it really difficult in financial planning for small scale transportation companies.
Thirdly, on behalf of Rudy's Courier, now that we are informed (thanks Doc 😀), we shall be submitting a letter to voice our opposition to the adjustment in the price setting formula. I ask other small business owners to follow suit and voice your concerns via a letter. The details and how to submit input are through this link:http://www.pub.nl.ca/PP/ApplicationsProceedings/2022PetroleumPricingReview/report/Highlights%20for%20Island%20Consumers%20and%20Industry%20-%202024-06-06.pdf
Requests for presentations run until July 15. Letters of comment should be filed by Aug. 16.
Please share to anyone you feel shall be affected. This affects us all in Rural NL.
