This year’s first planned activity was a fly-out to Texada Island, one of seven fly-outs this summer, Sunday, April 30, 2023.

We were greeted with amazing hospitality by volunteers from Texada/Gillies Bay Airport with freshly-made hamburgers, a tour of the museum, and a chance to meet fellow flyers. Thank you for a great visit!

There is more information here about the upcoming fly-outs:

Starting April 1, and over the coming months, a number of clotheslines will be installed along the runway at Delta Heritage Airpark.

Because of the unpredictable wind directions, it has been determined that - in combination with the already installed windsock - a row of regular socks may be helpful, especially to less-experienced pilots and pilots, unfamiliar with the airpark. The addition of socks will give a more accurate reading of the wind, especially on short final and help determine the proper control input for a successful landing.

For this purpose, colourful socks are recommended. Therefore, black dress socks may not be the best but it's a personal choice. Pilots at the airpark are responsible for their own socks. At the end of each flight, please remove your own socks (from the clothesline, that is.)

Socks with holes in them are not recommended, however, darning needles will be available at Mary's Place.

An evaluation will be presented at a later date. Until then, happy flying!
