Outcasts are in the house … or at least on the lawn.

That means the Kids Picnic at the Airport is a go, despite the weather. The grounds are a bit damp, so bring a chair, and the right footwear/attitude.

The picnic runs from noon to 2 pm, we hope to see you there.

It's Airport Workers Day, and in Gander, it carries a special meaning. ✈️

For generations, aviation has been at the heart of our community. From our beginnings as a strategic airbase in the 1930s to earning the title of the “Crossroads of the World,” Gander’s history has been shaped by the people who keep our airport running.

Today, we recognize the dedicated workers of Gander International Airport. Those who helped guide aircraft across the Atlantic during WWII, welcomed thousands of stranded travellers during 9/11, and continue to connect Gander, our region, and Newfoundland and Labrador with the world.

Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and service.

More Toronto service for Central Newfoundland. ✈️

Air Canada is extending non-stop YQX–YYZ service into the winter shoulder season, with flights four times weekly from Oct. 25 to Dec. 13, 2026, and the route returns March 1, 2027, three months earlier than usual.

Schedule:

YYZ–YQX: Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, 7:50 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
YQX–YYZ: Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, 12:50 p.m. – 1:50 p.m.

Flights will operate on Air Canada Express regional jets, E175/CRJ900, with a two-class cabin: 12 Business Class seats and 64 Economy seats.

This is a major opportunity for Central NL to grow service, with more choice, better hub access, and a stronger case for future winter flying.

Flights are expected to be available next week.

Summer service has taken off at YQX.

Air Canada’s daily Toronto flights have started, now operating with a larger Boeing 737 aircraft and more seats for Central Newfoundland travellers.

Six-times-weekly Montreal service begins June 17, joining Air Canada’s daily Halifax service from Gander.

We’re inviting members of the public to attend a meeting of Gander International Airport’s Accessibility Plan Feedback Group on Thursday, June 4, at 6:00 p.m. in the International Lounge Boardroom.

This session is an opportunity to share feedback on airport accessibility and help inform future updates to our Accessibility Plan. We welcome input from travellers, airport users, community members, persons with disabilities, support persons, and organizations interested in accessibility.

At today’s Annual Public Meeting, we released our 2025 Annual Report.

The story is one of measured progress. Passenger traffic continued to recover, summer travel was especially strong, our financial position improved sharply, and major projects kept moving forward.

A few highlights from the year:

✈️ Passenger traffic grew by 5% over 2024, including 20% in Summer, reaching about 74% of 2019 levels

💰 Revenue reached $10.43 million, up about 21% from the previous year

📈 The airport moved from a $727,612 deficit in 2024 to an $882,930 surplus in 2025, a positive swing of more than $1.6 million

🦞 Work continued on the new Seafood Cargo Centre, supported by successful lobster trial flights to Spain

🛬 International activity strengthened, including growth in passenger technical stops, cargo flights, military movements, corporate aviation, and widebody traffic

🏗️ More than $5.5 million was invested in infrastructure, fleet, roads, terminal improvements, and strategic projects

💛 Sense of Arrival improvements helped make YQX a warmer, more distinctive gateway for Central Newfoundland and the Province

“There is still work to do, but our 2025 success is repeatable,” said GIAA CEO Reg Wright. “Despite some growth, off-season air access remains our major challenge and priority, with limited seat capacity and thin schedules. Beyond that, we are pleased with our results and future prospects."

The GIAA thanks the airport team, tenants, airlines, contractors, community partners, government partners, and the travelling public. Gander International Airport is more than transportation infrastructure; it is a public asset, an economic engine, and a key part of Central Newfoundland’s identity.
