Spring migration is in full swing! Every spring, millions of migratory birds make their return back to Canada and Ontario. 🐦

But here’s a fun fact: they’re not alone on this journey! That’s right - even bats, butterflies and certain insects are part of the great migration. 🦇🐞

Want to see these creatures for yourself? Now’s the perfect time to explore your own backyard - head to the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Ingleside, Ontario, and wander the trails, boardwalk, and photo-worthy views! 📸

Local birdwatchers and wildlife photographers are already spotting returning species - will you be the next to capture a unique sighting?

🌿 Pro tip: Visit early in the morning when the trails come alive with birds feeding after their overnight flight. Warm, calm mornings after a south wind can bring in big waves of migrating species!

👀 Keep an eye out for: Canada goose, mallard, American black duck, wood duck, blue-winged teal, common merganser, double-crested cormorant, great blue heron, and belted kingfisher.

⚠️ Reminder to respect the conservation efforts in place, including restrictions on fi****ms and hunting, keeping dogs on leash, and leave no garbage behind - every small action helps the wildlife that rely on this habitat.

📣 Share your photos of what species you’ve spotted!

Happy National Volunteer Week! 🎉

Today, we’re sending a huge round of applause to a group that has made an incredible difference at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary - our Friends of the Sanctuary (FOS)!

This passionate, all-volunteer, not-for-profit group is made up of nature lovers, community builders, and conservation champions. From restoring trails to hosting community programs and everything in between, they help keep the Sanctuary a beautiful, welcoming, and inclusive space for all.

Fun fact: Just last year, the FOS marked their 30th anniversary and helped reopen the Blue Heron Trail Boardwalk after over a decade - a true testament to what community spirit can achieve!

To all the amazing FOS members and volunteers - THANK YOU for your passion, your time, and your unwavering dedication. 💚
