Today we want to speak directly to our community, supporters, and everyone who believes in the work being done at The Flower Cart Group
For over 50 years our organization has provided meaningful employment, skills development, and support for individuals who face barriers to participating in the workforce, including persons with intellectual disabilities. The people in our programs are not just clients — they are valued members of our community who deserve opportunities to work, grow, and live with independence and dignity.
Each year we support hundreds of individuals through programs that focus on employment, life enrichment, active lifestyles, community engagement, and individualized supports. Through our social enterprises and community programs, clients gain real work experience while contributing to services that local residents and businesses rely on every day.
Many people may not realize that the services connected to our organization are part of the daily life of our community. These initiatives not only provide important local resources, but also create meaningful employment opportunities and hands-on learning experiences for the people we support.
Unfortunately, recent provincial funding decisions have introduced a reduction of at least 10% to core funding for services that support adults with disabilities. Funding reductions like this may seriously impact the ability of organizations like ours to continue operating at our current level.
If services are reduced, the impact will go far beyond our organization. It will affect the individuals who rely on these opportunities, their families, and the many community members who benefit from the essential services and programs we help deliver.
Our priority remains ensuring that any funding changes do not impair our ability to support persons with disabilities in our community. Our work continues, and we remain committed to keeping clients, families, and our community informed if there are any changes to programs or operations.
We are incredibly grateful for the support we continue to receive from our community. The support of our What’s Cooking Commerical Kitchen, and our Bakers Choice Fine Foods social enterprises, Michelin Waterville team, as well as our Flower Cart Opportunities rec and leisure program , every word of encouragement, and every person who believes in our mission helps make a difference.
Today, we are asking for your help.
If The Flower Cart Group matters to you, please take a moment to speak up. Contact your local MLA and the Province of Nova Scotia and let them know how important community organizations and employment programs for persons with disabilities are to you. Share why these opportunities matter and why maintaining strong support for these services is essential for our community.
You can also help by sharing this message, talking with your friends and neighbours, and encouraging others to reach out to their elected representatives.
Together, our voices can make a difference and help ensure these opportunities and supports continue for years to come.
Thank you,
The Flower Cart Group
