One of the more interesting parts of hauling aviation fuel is seeing where it ends up.

This load was delivered to a temporary helicopter refuelling site supporting wildfire operations. These sites are strategically positioned so helicopters don’t have to spend valuable time flying back to an airport every time they need fuel. Depending on the aircraft and the work it’s doing, helicopters can burn through fuel surprisingly quickly, so keeping fuel close to the operation helps maximize the amount of time they can spend in the air.

Deliveries like this require careful planning. Aviation fuel has to be handled under strict procedures, and every transfer is completed with safety and product quality at the forefront. It’s a unique part of the bulk liquid industry that not many tanker drivers get the opportunity to experience.

It was a great afternoon to step away from the day-to-day, enjoy some good food, and spend time with an incredible group of people. We’re grateful for the hard work and dedication our team puts in every day, and it was nice to have the chance to show our appreciation.

One of the most frustrating parts of trucking is dealing with the same issue more than once.

Truck goes into the shop.
Issue gets repaired.
Driver gets back on the road…then days later the same light comes back on, the same vibration returns, or the same problem starts happening again.

Drivers notice these things immediately because they spend more time with that truck than anyone else. They know when something feels off before it becomes a full breakdown.

And the frustration isn’t just the repair — it’s the downtime that comes with it. Missed time, delayed loads, rescheduling appointments, sitting in a shop yard, and trying to keep the day from completely falling apart.

No driver wants to be parked, especially for the same issue twice.

At the end of the day, reliable equipment keeps everyone moving — the driver, the customer, and the operation as a whole.

May Blitz is officially underway across Canada and the U.S. 🚛

During the CVSA International Roadcheck, enforcement officers conduct thousands of inspections on commercial vehicles over a 72-hour period. Drivers, tractors, trailers, paperwork, hours of service, defects, and safety equipment can all be inspected at any time.

This year’s focus areas are:
• Cargo securement
• ELD tampering / false logs

Even for tanker operations where freight is contained inside the trailer, cargo securement still applies. Inspectors can check securement of hoses, pumps, tools, dunnage, fittings, spare equipment, and anything else carried on the unit.

Inspections can also include:
• placards and dangerous goods paperwork
• hoses, valves, and piping
• emergency equipment
• brake systems, tires, suspension, and lights
• driver documentation and training
• hours of service and supporting documents

A clean inspection doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from drivers doing proper pre-trips and post-trips, mechanics staying ahead of repairs, dispatch ensuring compliance, and everyone working together to keep equipment safe and road ready every day — not just during Blitz week.

One thing propane drivers constantly monitor during loading is the 80/20 rule.

Propane expands significantly with temperature, which means trailers cannot be loaded completely full of liquid product. Instead, they are typically loaded to around 80% liquid capacity, leaving space for v***r expansion as temperatures and pressure change.

Drivers are continuously monitoring pressure, outage, temperature, and v***r during loading to ensure the trailer remains within safe operating limits. That’s also why two trailers with the same capacity can leave with different amounts of product depending on weather conditions and v***r pressure that day.

From the outside, it looks simple—drive from point A to point B. What most people don’t see is everything before the truck moves, and everything that can change once it does.

The day starts in the dark or rain with a full pre-trip. Then it’s loading—managing pressures, weights, and v***r, sometimes climbing on top of a tanker to make sure it’s exact—all within strict site procedures.

That clean schedule on paper doesn’t last. Rack delays, lineups, and border waits shift everything, and there’s no controlling it.

Getting to site isn’t easy either. Tight access, busy yards, hours on FSRs, and zero room for error mean every move matters. On the road, it’s traffic that doesn’t understand stopping distance, and drivers pushing limits around you.

Then comes offloading—connections, air, pumps, site requirements—where mistakes aren’t just inconvenient, they can be serious.

This job isn’t just driving. It’s awareness, patience, and constant adjustment.

Breakdowns are part of trucking—but sitting on the shoulder is the last place any driver wants to be.

Owner-operator or company driver, it doesn’t matter—everyone wants to get moving again. Our priority is simple: keep the driver safe, protect the public, and get them back on the road for themselves and our customers.

First step is always safety. Proper warning triangles go out to create space and alert traffic moving at highway speeds.

After that, it’s all coordination.

A tractor issue? Usually easier to get a mobile mechanic or tow.
A loaded tanker? That’s a different story—product, pressure, and regulations mean not every shop can touch it, and not every situation is simple.

Sometimes it’s a quick fix. Sometimes it takes time to get the right people and equipment in place.

Either way, how it’s handled is what matters—and it’s something we all take seriously.

Placards aren’t decoration — they’re critical safety information.

In Canada, they’re required under Transport Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations for most loads over 450 L and must be displayed on all four sides of the unit. That way, in an emergency, no matter where first responders approach from, they know what they’re dealing with and how to respond.

These diamond-shaped placards, identify the type of hazard using colours, symbols, and class numbers:
• Red = Flammable
• White/black = Corrosive
• Yellow = Oxidizer
• Green = Non-flammable gas
• Orange = Explosives

There are 9 total hazard classes under TDG, each with its own risks and requirements.

They’re not optional, and they’re not “close enough.” They must be correct, clean, visible, and secure every trip.

Wrong or missing placards don’t just mean fines — they put first responders, the public, and you at risk.

Always take the extra minute. Check them before you roll.

Run B.C. today, reload, and head for the border tomorrow — happens all the time.

You shut down thinking you’re good with 8 hours off… then realize that won’t fly once you cross. Now you need 10, and if you didn’t plan for it, your whole next day is off.

Or you’re rolling steady in the U.S., getting close to your 8 hours of drive time and now you’ve got to find somewhere to squeeze in that 30-minute break — not always easy depending on where you are.

None of it is complicated on paper, but in real life it’s tight timing, parking, reloads, and border plans all stacked together.

That’s why this only works when drivers and dispatch are talking — planning the reset, the break, and the next move before it becomes a problem.

ASC is hiring part-time drivers for local work, running out of Langley to Ferndale, Burnaby, and Richmond. This is a great opportunity for experienced drivers looking to add an extra day without committing to a full-time schedule.

What we’re looking for:
• Valid FAST card
• Valid TWIC card
• Professional, safety-focused mindset
• Must not exceed 70 hours/week (if employed elsewhere, previous hours must be provided)

What we offer:
• Up to $38.56/hour (based on experience)
