Applications for 2021 Chris Holmes Flight Scholarship are now being accepted.
Chris Holmes grew up in Maple Creek Saskatchewan with a love for flying. He became a third-generation pilot when he received his private pilot’s license in 2009. He followed his flying passion and received his commercial rating and twin-engine rating in Calgary. In 2017 he completed his float plane rating in Fort Langley and was hooked on floats! By April he had completed his Bush pilot rating and found his dream job. He quickly became well respected and sought after with tourists and in the aviation community by pilots worldwide. He made every routine circuit an adventure and was always sharing amazing photos he took on both land and from the air.
A pilot’s life is hard, low pay and many hours. And the financial costs for training and gaining experience are high. This flight scholarship was started in loving memory of Chris Holmes to help those from Maple Creek and area to follow in Chris’s footsteps and realize their own dreams of flying.
One scholarship is available each year up to $1500 to one pilot from Maple Creek and area working to obtain higher ratings in aviation. The Chris Holmes Flight Scholarship will be awarded annually.
Possible awards available are as follows: $500 for night rating, $500 float plane rating, $1500 for instrument rating, and $1500 for instructor rating. Each Applicant can only be awarded a lifetime maximum of $2000. Applicants must hold a current Private Pilot Certificate and plan to pursue advanced training in aviation.
Please submit a copy of your private pilot certificate, confirmation of the course you are enrolled in and a written essay giving your reasons for pursuing advanced training in aviation and why you should be the successful applicant for the Chris Holmes Flight Scholarship (1 page typewritten).
Please submit applications to [email protected]. Deadline is August 1, 2021. Successful Applicants will be notified via phone prior to August 15th.
