🏍️ Don’t just park it and forget it!

Preparing your motorcycle properly for storage can help protect the fuel system, battery, engine and other components while it sits.

Before putting it away:

✔️ Wash and thoroughly dry the motorcycle
✔️ Change the oil and filter as recommended in the owner’s manual
✔️ Add the correct amount of fuel stabilizer to fresh fuel and run the engine long enough to circulate it
✔️ Charge the battery with an approved maintainer—or remove and store it as directed
✔️ Check tire pressure and support the motorcycle according to the manufacturer’s recommendations
✔️ Clean and lubricate the chain, if equipped
✔️ Check coolant protection on liquid-cooled motorcycles
✔️ Store it somewhere dry under a breathable cover

Storage requirements can vary, so always check your motorcycle’s owner’s manual.

Need help getting your motorcycle ready for its winter rest? Contact DB Powersports—we can help prepare it now so it’s ready to ride when spring returns!

⛽ Fuel stabilizer protects more than the fuel sitting in the tank.

When gasoline remains unused for an extended period, it begins to oxidize and break down. This can contribute to gum and varnish deposits inside fuel tanks, lines, carburetors and injectors. The result may be hard starting, rough running or restricted fuel passages when it is time to use the machine again.

As part of DB Powersports’ winterization process, every gasoline-powered machine we winterize receives the appropriate amount of fuel stabilizer. We then run the engine so the treated fuel circulates through the entire fuel system—not just the tank.

Fuel stabilizer helps:

✔️ Slow fuel oxidation and deterioration
✔️ Prevent gum and varnish from forming
✔️ Reduce fuel-system corrosion during storage
✔️ Make spring startup easier

We recommend stabilizing the fuel in boats, ATVs, dirt bikes, motorcycles and snowmobiles before winter or any extended storage period.

Stabilizer works best when added to fresh fuel and cannot restore fuel that is already stale or contaminated. Winterization procedures vary by machine, so always follow the product label and owner’s manual.

A small step before storage can help prevent a much larger fuel-system problem later.

🍂 Boating season may not feel finished yet—but freezing temperatures rarely wait for a convenient time.

Water can remain trapped inside marine cooling passages and components. If that water freezes, it expands and may cause cracks, leaks or other expensive damage. Proper winterization prepares your engine and fuel system for storage while helping protect internal components from moisture and corrosion.

At DB Powersports, we also complete the engine oil change during winterization. Used oil can contain moisture, combustion by-products and other contaminants that should not remain inside the engine all winter. Fresh oil provides cleaner protection during storage and means this important seasonal maintenance is already completed when spring returns.

Winterization requirements vary by engine and cooling system, so don’t wait for the first frost to determine what your boat needs. Contact DB Powersports to discuss preparing your boat for winter storage.

Protect it now. Enjoy an easier start to next boating season. 🚤

⚙️ From tow to teardown…

This machine stopped running on the lake and displayed fault codes, so we recovered it and brought it back to the shop.

After removing the engine for inspection, we found a major internal failure: the connecting rod had broken and damaged the engine case.

Fault codes tell technicians that the system detected a problem, but they don’t always identify exactly what failed. Sometimes the full extent of the damage cannot be seen until components are removed and inspected.

DB Powersports is an independent repair shop. We can document the damage found, but we are not attributing this failure to the manufacturer or confirming the original cause without further investigation.

If your machine develops unusual engine noise, warning messages or a sudden loss of power, shut it down and have it inspected. Continuing to operate it may cause additional damage.

🌿 Your machine may be bringing part of the trail home with it!

Grass seeds, mud, leaves and bugs can collect on your ATV or side-by-side radiator. When debris blocks the fins, air cannot flow through properly to remove heat from the engine. This can lead to higher operating temperatures, reduced performance and possible overheating.

After a dusty, grassy or muddy ride:

✔️ Let the machine cool completely.
✔️ Inspect the radiator and protective screen for buildup.
✔️ Remove debris using the method recommended in your owner’s manual.
✔️ Avoid high-pressure spraying directly against the radiator—it can bend the delicate fins.

Never remove a radiator cap while the engine is hot. If your temperature warning comes on, the fan isn’t working or your machine continues running hot after the radiator is cleaned, contact DB Powersports for assistance.

A quick look now could prevent a long walk back to the trailer!

Expectation: “I’m dropping it off Wednesday and need it back for the weekend.”

Reality: We may not be able to make that happen.

We understand that breakdowns are inconvenient and weekend plans are important. However, our shop is also working on machines that other customers brought in before yours. Every customer matters, and it would not be fair to move one machine ahead simply because guests are arriving at the cottage.

Repairs also take time to diagnose properly, and parts or additional concerns may affect the turnaround. We will always do our best to provide a realistic update, but a Wednesday drop-off cannot guarantee a Friday pickup.

If you know your machine has an issue—or have a particular weekend when you need it—please bring it in as early as possible and tell us about your deadline when you drop it off.

Your time is valuable, and so is the time of our technicians and every customer already waiting. Planning ahead gives us the best opportunity to get you back on the water, road or trail when you need to be there.

Thank you for your patience and for respecting the process. 🔧
