Fare and service changes in Merritt

BC Transit and the City of Merritt are advising customers of a service change, effective May 5, 2025.

With the reopening of the Middlesboro Bridge, transit service will return to Main Street and Coldwater Avenue.

Route 2 Collettville and Route 3 Diamond Vale will be reinstated, and Route 23 Collettville-Diamond Vale will be removed.

BC Transit and the City of Merritt are advising riders of a fare change effective May 1, 2025.

In 2025, following a significant fare review process that included consultation between the City of Merrit and BC Transit, the City of Merritt approved a price increase for transit fares. The last change took place in 2017.

Effective on May 1, 2025, the fare collected for a single ride is changing from $2.00 to $2.50. Sheets of 10 Single Ride tickets adjusts to $22.50. The price for a Concession (Student/Senior) Monthly Pass goes from $32 to $42.50 and Adult Monthly Pass changes from $42 to $50.

The price of impacted fare products changes universally regardless of a rider’s preferred payment method or retail outlet. The cost of operating transit has increased, as has the demand for service with an ever-growing population.

This fare increase will support BC Transit’s and the City of Merrit’s ability to improve and expand on service in the region in the coming years. All decisions around fares and service levels are determined by the City of Merritt.
