JOB OPPORTUNITY - OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

As the Operations Supervisor you will be responsible for implementing a robust silviculture and ecological harvesting program. In addition, you will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the silviculture and harvesting crew in conjunction with the forest technician.

Conform Limited is a private land forest co-operative that was established in 1977 that has grown from six original members to more than 250 current members and more than 60,000 acres of forested land under management. It is guided by a five-member board of directors and a manager.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Silviculture and ecological harvest engagement
• Engaging existing and new members
• Overseeing daily operations of harvesting and silviculture crew
• Assistance for forest technician as required
• Working with Conform Ltd you will be part of team atmosphere where we genuinely care about the environment and future of the communities we operate in. You will work with a diverse sector of employees, stakeholders, industry (sawmills), various stewards of the land, landowners and forestry operations businesses.

Job Requirements:
• Graduate of recognized forestry degree program, forest technical diploma or any combination of knowledge/experience
• Three years’ experience in forest operations including trucking, harvesting and road building
• Working knowledge of ArcGIS
• Experience and interest in working with private stewards
• Commitment to be a team player in an inclusive work environment
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work independently
• Travel throughout Colchester, Halifax, and Hants counties
• Vehicle capable of traveling on forest access roads

Work Location:
Conform Limited’s office is in Musquodoboit Valley in central Nova Scotia. We operate in parts of Colchester, Halifax and Hants counties.

Compensation and Hours of Work:
Salary will be based on 40 hours per week, with both flexibility in the workplace as well as demands outside normal hours of operation, from time to time.
Salary to commensurate with experience.

With the recent increase in fuel prices Conform Limited will be charging a 10% fuel surcharge on all firewood deliveries effective immediately.

Softwood and marketed wood will be subject to a pricing formula of $12 per ton plus $0.12 per km per ton travelled effective immediately.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and we will make adjustments to this fuel surcharge as prices in diesel fluctuate.

Todd Burgess, Forest Nova Scotia's Outreach Coordinator was out to see Shannon at Conform Ltd near Middle Musquodoboit this week. Todd was there to review our Road Access Program, discuss important forestry issues and to drop off some signs for Conform members. If you want a "Nova Scotia Needs Forestry" sign or a "Friends of a New Northern Pulp" sign...drop in to see Shannon and get one to display on your own property.

Woodlot owners need to show their pride in the sector and to show their support for Northern Pulp's plan for a substantially improved pulp mill. If our government leaders can show fairness by establishing environmental goal posts and having an expert panel lead the Environmental Assessment process, woodlot owners may have a market for their lower quality wood in the future.
