If Canada is part of your study plan, please don’t use an old screenshot, old YouTube video, or information from someone who applied years ago to prepare your proof of funds.

Starting September 1, 2026, IRCC has increased the amount of money study permit applicants must show for living expenses when applying to study outside Quebec.

⚠️ And this is NOT your tuition.

You must also account for tuition and transportation costs. IRCC says applicants must demonstrate they have enough money to support themselves and accompanying family members without relying on working in Canada.

And here’s something many people overlook:

👉🏽 The source of your money matters too.

IRCC can assess your financial resources and their source, so simply putting a large amount of money into an account without being able to explain where it came from may not be enough.

August is gone. The things we prayed about, the battles we fought, the disappointments we experienced, the doors that closed, and the little victories we celebrated are now behind us.

And that means God is not finished with your story.

🚨 STOP! Your employment reference letter could be the reason your Canada PR application succeeds… or gets refused! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😳

You worked for years.
You have the experience.
You have the payslips.
You have the employment contract.

But when it’s time to prove that work experience to IRCC, your employment reference letter matters A LOT.

And this is where many applicants make a costly mistake. 😩

Your reference letter should generally provide enough information for IRCC to assess whether your work experience matches the requirements of the immigration program and the occupation you are claiming.

⚠️ What should you pay attention to?

📌 1. Your job title
Make sure your position is clearly stated and consistent with the experience you are claiming.

📌 2. Your employment dates
The letter should clearly indicate when you started and, where applicable, when your employment ended.

📌 3. Your working hours
Full-time, part-time, hours per week—these details can be important when IRCC assesses your qualifying work experience.

📌 4. Your salary and benefits
Your compensation should be clearly indicated where required.

📌 5. Your main duties and responsibilities
🚨 This is one of the BIGGEST areas to pay attention to!

Your duties should genuinely reflect the work you actually performed and should align with the occupational requirements you’re claiming.

Don’t simply copy a job description from the internet because it “sounds like” your occupation. Your documentation needs to accurately represent your real employment.

📌 6. Employer information
The letter should contain sufficient information to identify and verify the employer, including appropriate contact details and, where applicable, the person signing the letter.

🚨 And please don’t wait until you’re invited to prepare this!

If you’re building your Express Entry profile or planning to apply through another economic immigration pathway, start gathering your employment documents early.

Because imagine receiving that ITA you’ve been praying for… 🙏🏾🇨🇦

…and then realizing you cannot get a proper reference letter from your former employer.

💔 That can be a very stressful situation.

Your PR application is not the place to “manage it somehow.” Your documents should tell a clear, consistent and truthful story about your work experience.

You finally got your Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦 visa, your bags are out, and you’re ready to pack everything from home… STOP! There are some things you can bring to Canada, some things you cannot, and some things you MUST declare. Let me save you from having your suitcase become a problem at the airport!” 😅✈️🇨🇦

First, don’t assume that because something is legal in your home country, you can automatically bring it into Canada.

Let’s talk about some things you should know before you start packing.

So, if you’ve already moved to Canada, what is ONE thing you brought from home that you were so happy you packed?

And if you’re still waiting for your Canada visa, what is the ONE thing you’re already planning to put in your suitcase? 😂✈️

🚨 STOP! Don’t create your Express Entry profile until you read this! 🇨🇦

A lot of people rush to create an Express Entry profile because they think:

👉🏽 “Once I’m in the pool, I’m already on my way to Canada.”

Not necessarily! 😳

Before you create your profile, take a step back and make sure you understand how your profile could affect your CRS score and your overall immigration strategy.

Here are some things you should look at FIRST 👇🏽

1️⃣ Your language test results 🗣️

Your English or French test score can have a significant impact on your CRS points.

Don’t just aim to pass. Higher language scores can give you more CRS points and may also help you qualify for additional skill-transferability points.

And if you speak French, don’t ignore it! 🇫🇷 Depending on your results and eligibility, French-language ability can provide additional CRS points and potentially make you eligible for French-language category-based selection.

2️⃣ Your education

Make sure your educational credentials are properly assessed where required.

If you studied outside Canada, you may need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to claim points for your education.

Also, understand exactly what level of education you can claim. Don’t assume that having several certificates automatically means you can claim the highest education category.

3️⃣ Your work experience

This is VERY important.

Your job title alone does not determine your immigration classification. Your actual job duties and responsibilities matter.

Make sure your work experience fits the requirements of the NOC/TEER category you are claiming and that you can properly document that experience.

A wrong NOC can create serious problems later.

4️⃣ Your age

Age is one of the factors considered in the CRS calculation.

Generally, younger candidates receive more CRS points for age, so don’t delay unnecessarily if you are already eligible.

However, this doesn’t mean you should create a profile without first making sure the rest of your information is accurate and competitive.

5️⃣ Your spouse’s profile

If you are married, don’t automatically assume that putting yourself as the principal applicant is always the best strategy.

Depending on your circumstances, your spouse may have stronger language results, education, work experience or other factors that could make one arrangement more advantageous.

Compare both scenarios before submitting.

6️⃣ Your French-language ability

If you speak French, use that to your advantage!

A strong French test result may increase your CRS score and can potentially make you eligible for French-language category-based Express Entry draws if you meet the requirements.

So if your French is good enough to test, don’t simply overlook it because your English is already strong.

7️⃣ Provincial Nominee Programs

Express Entry is not your only option.

Some provinces and territories have immigration programs connected to Express Entry.

A provincial nomination can make a huge difference to your CRS score and may significantly improve your chances of receiving an ITA.

So while creating your Express Entry profile, also ask yourself:

👉🏽 “Could I be a good candidate for a provincial nomination?”

8️⃣ Category-based selection

Don’t look only at the general Express Entry draws.

IRCC may conduct category-based selections for eligible candidates in specific categories.

Depending on your background, you may benefit from categories such as French-language proficiency or certain occupational groups.

Understanding where you fit can help you make a better immigration plan.

🚨 HERE’S THE BIGGEST MISTAKE TO AVOID:

Don’t create your profile simply because someone told you:

“Just enter the pool and see what happens.”

Your Express Entry profile should be based on accurate information and a clear understanding of your eligibility and potential CRS score.

And remember: creating an Express Entry profile does NOT guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

🚨 YOUR EXPRESS ENTRY CRS SCORE IS LOW? PLEASE, DON’T PANIC AND RUSH TO GET ANOTHER DEGREE! 🇨🇦❤️

I know how frustrating it can feel when you check your CRS score and realize it’s not where you want it to be.

You start thinking:

“Maybe I’m too old.”
“Maybe my score is too low.”
“Maybe I need another degree.”
“Maybe Canada is no longer possible for me.” 😔

But before you spend years and thousands of dollars getting another qualification, take a step back and look at your entire profile.

Whether you’re already in Canada 🇨🇦 or still sitting back home dreaming about your Canadian journey , there may be other ways to strengthen your profile.

Here are 5 things I would look at 👇🏾

🗣️ 1️⃣ IMPROVE YOUR LANGUAGE SCORE

Sometimes, the difference between your current CRS and the score you’re hoping for could be sitting in your language results.

If you can improve your English or French test results and move to a higher CLB/NCLC level, you may be able to gain more points.

Before you spend money on another degree, ask yourself: “Can I improve my language score first?”

🇫🇷 2️⃣ DON’T SLEEP ON FRENCH

This is one I really want my African people to pay attention to. 👀

If you already speak French, or you’re willing to learn it, this could be a strategy worth exploring.

Strong French proficiency can give you additional CRS points and may also make you eligible for French-language category-based Express Entry draws.

So if you’re Francophone, your French may be more valuable to your immigration journey than you realize. 🇫🇷❤️

🎓 3️⃣ CANADIAN EDUCATION

If you’re already in Canada, an eligible Canadian post-secondary credential may give you additional CRS points.

But if you’re outside Canada and thinking about coming as a student, please don’t let anyone convince you that:

“Just come and study this course and PR is guaranteed.”

Please.

Research first. Understand the program. Understand the rules. Understand the cost.

Your Canadian education should be a well-thought-out decision—not a desperate PR gamble.

💼 4️⃣ CANADIAN WORK EXPERIENCE

If you’re already in Canada and gaining eligible Canadian skilled work experience, this may strengthen your Express Entry profile.

But if you’re outside Canada, don’t look at your foreign work experience and think:

“It doesn’t count for anything.”

Your foreign skilled work experience can also be valuable.

🏆 5️⃣ EXPLORE PROVINCIAL NOMINATION

And then there’s PNP. 👀

A provincial or territorial nomination through an Express Entry-linked stream can add 600 CRS points.

That can completely change a candidate’s profile.

But please remember:

Being outside Canada doesn’t automatically disqualify you from every provincial pathway.

And being inside Canada doesn’t automatically guarantee you a nomination.

Every province has its own requirements.

So whether you’re currently in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Douala, Yaoundé, Lagos, Accra or somewhere else in the world, don’t look at one number and decide that your Canadian dream is over.

Sometimes, you don’t need to start all over.

Sometimes, you just need to look at your profile differently and find where you can gain an advantage. ❤️🇨🇦

And if you’re already in Canada, please don’t assume that because you’re physically here, your PR pathway will automatically become easy.

Canada rewards strategy, not just hope.
