**Marina & Weather Advisory**

Due to ongoing power outages in the area, the marina will be operating at bare minimum capacity until power is restored. Current estimates indicate restoration is expected by **11:00 PM tonight**.

Please be advised that **high winds and rough water conditions** are forecast throughout the day. Boaters should exercise extreme caution and consider postponing non-essential travel on the water.

Cottagers are also advised that power outages may affect their properties. If you are planning to travel to your cottage today, please be prepared for the possibility of limited or no electrical service.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to restore power safely.

šŸš«šŸ”Œ BREAKING: Hydro One Reporting Widespread Power Outages Across Central & Eastern Ontario, More Than 80,000 Customers Affected

We’re receiving reports of a major power outage impacting multiple areas across Central and Eastern Ontario this evening.

As of 8:20 PM, Hydro One is reporting approximately 89,000 customers without power.

The largest outages appear to be concentrated across the Nipissing, Renfrew, Parry Sound, Muskoka, Haliburton, Hastings, and Frontenac regions.

The cause of the outages has not yet been confirmed. However, we have received reports of strong wind gusts across parts of the affected area this evening, which may be a contributing factor.

Are you currently without power? Let us know where you’re located and what conditions you’re seeing in your area.

Solid advice! Be considerate!

Nothing backs up a lake day faster than bad boat launch etiquette.

The boat launch is where great days begin… or where things can get tense fast. A little awareness goes a long way in keeping things smooth for everyone.

Here’s how to do it right:

1. Prep BEFORE you hit the ramp
Load your gear, put the plug in, remove straps, and get lines ready in the parking area. The ramp is for launching, not organizing.

2. Wait your turn (and be patient)
Busy weekends happen. The line is for vehicles and trailers. No cutting, no creeping.

3. Keep it quick and smooth
When it’s your turn, back in with purpose. No rushing, but no delays either. Efficient launches keep things stress-free for everyone.

4. Launch, tie off, and move on
Use the dock as a quick stop, not a hangout. Get your boat in, secure it, and clear the ramp right away.

5. Same rules coming out
Load up quickly, then pull away from the ramp before packing up. Don’t block others trying to get off the water.

6. Respect others (and the lake)
Stay calm, help if someone’s struggling, and keep the vibe friendly. We’re all here for the same reason.

Thanks to one of our customers for alerting us that there is currently a big log sticking up in the middle of the Narrows (hard to see from afar). Boats can continue slowly around it but trim up & proceed with caution if travelling through today!

FYI

If you own a boat, unwelcome changes have arrived to how it is licensed and registered.

As of December 31, 2025, new federal regulations have changed how Pleasure Craft Licenses are issued and maintained in Canada:

• Existing lifetime licences will be phased out
• New and renewed licences are valid for 5 years
• A $24 fee now applies to issuing, renewing, transferring, or replacing a licence, with annual increases tied to inflation
• Boat owners must update name or address changes within 30 days

ā€œTransport Canada is framing these changes as improvements to safety and environmental protection, yet they double down on their original proposal—raising the fee from $15 to $24 and adding annual increases—despite strong opposition. Many of the concerns raised by OFAH Membership during consultations remain unresolved. While these changes are promoted as benefiting boaters, there are no clear, tangible improvements like better launches, parking, or wash stations to address invasive species. At this point, this appears far more like cost recovery than a meaningful investment in boating safety or access,ā€ OFAH Fisheries Biologist Adam Weir said.
