🇨🇦 Canada Chooses Saab GlobalEye to Strengthen Arctic Surveillance and NORAD Operations
Built on the Canadian-made Bombardier Global 6500, the aircraft will provide long-range radar and surveillance capabilities to help monitor Canada's vast Arctic region and support NORAD operations.
The decision is also a major win for Canada's aerospace industry, supporting skilled jobs, domestic production, and technology transfer while strengthening Canada's ability to detect and respond to emerging threats.
A significant step forward for both Canadian defence and Canadian aerospace.
The GlobalEye program is more than a defence purchase — it's a boost for Canada's aerospace industry. Built on Bombardier Global 6500 airframes manufactured in Toronto, the project includes technology transfer, Canadian mission-system integration, and participation by domestic suppliers.
Saab has also committed to investing in Canadian research and development while partnering with local companies, including AI firm Cohere. The goal is to create high-skilled jobs, strengthen Canada's defence-industrial base, and give Canadian companies opportunities within Saab's global supply chain.
Canada's selection of Saab's GlobalEye reflects more than just aircraft performance. The platform combines proven surveillance technology with a Canadian-built Bombardier Global 6500 airframe, delivering both military capability and domestic industrial benefits.
The decision also supports Canada's effort to diversify defence procurement and strengthen partnerships beyond traditional suppliers. With growing interest from NATO and other allied nations, GlobalEye has established itself as a credible and modern airborne surveillance platform.
This aircraft type is the same type as the 412 Transport Squadron, based at Uplands is receiving. Very efficient in terms of pilot training as well
