Today's lovely weather had me thinking of baseball, Spring Training and Archie - a wonderful client and friend of ours who sadly passed away in January. I was fortunate enough to meet and become friends with Archie last summer. Archie was a huge baseball fan who also happened to coach his kids in a baseball game last summer against the What A Move team.
Archie had previously contacted me and wanted to know if we could deliver a bunch of items, and assemble some furniture at his family's new summer place near Brockville. He had one unusual request in that he wanted to know if his son, Tristan, could work with us for the day?
Not only were we delighted to add Tristan to our crew that day, but we also paid and outfitted him as if he was a crew member. Folks say that work isn't really work if you love you job. I'm fortunate in that I love my work and constantly meet great folks like Archie, his wife Kristal, and their sons.
Once the actual moving was done, the kids challenged our crew to a game of baseball. We should have known better.
Perhaps we should have declined the game - but how would it have looked if if we had said no to a bunch of kids just looking for a game of baseball? The What A Move crew are pretty athletic... and certainly seem like they wouldn't have any problems beating a bunch of kids in a baseball game. But, oh the humanity!
With Mom and Dad looking on, "The Sons of An Archie" put on an absolute baseball clinic that day. There was no mercy. They ran up the score until there was no more running to be done. The final score? Sons of An Archie 39 - What A Move! Stars 0
(A very accurate artistic rendering of the day is included with this post.)
Spring is almost here. And baseball will be back soon enough. Today, I am thankful for the friendships we made with Archie and his family, and for the new friendships to come.
