Incorporated in 1958 by Stu Berry and Ted Smith, Berry & Smith Trucking Ltd., based out of Penticton, BC, began with two trucks, hauling fruit - the major emphasis was customer service. The Berry family acquired sole proprietorship in 1970 and attributes the success of the company to their continued emphasis on both customer service and their dedicated team of drivers and support personnel. & Smith Trucking Ltd boasts a full 48 state and Canadian authority, over 180 employees, and a substantial, in-house truck maintenance facility. Berry & Smith’s head office is located in Penticton B.C., with regional trucking offices in Calgary, AB and Vancouver, BC. location includes loading docks, reload services, an 85,000 lb container lift, in-house truck maintenance facilities and 5 acres of fenced compound, secured with modern surveillance equipment. The company branched out into other areas of transportation with the acquisition of the Penticton school bus contract in 1964. The Penticton transit bus contract was added in 1977.

Highway 97 Reopening

Highway 97 has reopened with limited access from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. This remains an active wildfire area, and access is highly dependent on fire behaviour and the changing requirements of BC Wildfire Service crews.

What you need to know:

▪️7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.: Through traffic only.
▪️No stopping or exiting the highway at any time, except for approved Temporary Access Permit holders at Prairie Valley Road.
▪️Reduced speeds are in effect.
▪️Watch for workers on or near the roadway.
▪️Follow all traffic control instructions.
▪️Please avoid arriving before opening time to prevent traffic queuing.

7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Detour:
Commercial traffic: Highway 33.
Local traffic: Penticton to Highway 33 via Carmi Avenue, Beaverdell Road, 201 FSR, Okanagan Falls Road and McCulloch Road.

This remains an active wildfire area and conditions can change with little or no warning. Please stay informed and follow all evacuation and traffic control directions.

Highway 97 is open for through traffic only between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Road restrictions are in place. Follow the signs and directions of all emergency personnel as you drive through the corridor.

- There is NO ACCESS to any of the side roads to enter Evacuation Orders areas, without a valid RDOS Temporary Access Pass (TAP).
- Those with a Temporary Access Pass will be provided with information about which access point to use.
- Speed limits have been reduced to 70 km/h
- The Highway will be open to public traffic from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each day to allow crews access to continue work overnight.
- Do not arrive before opening time.

If the situation changes, the highway may be closed again with limited notice. Be prepared.
