A new Chamber of Marine Commerce study finds that enabling inland ports to process containers would relieve pressure on high-traffic hubs, improve trade efficiency, and enhance Canada’s economic resilience.

Picton Terminals is proud to play an integral part of the CMC study that demonstrates how Picton Terminals can be a critical piece to improving Canada’s supply chain. Our thanks to the Belleville Intelligencer for highlighting the economic import of enabling the six Great Lakes/St Lawrence Seaway ports to receive and scan foreign containers entering Canada, which would result in $132.4 million in additional business income across Ontario and Quebec.

We are proud to play an integral part of the Chamber of Marine Commerce study that demonstrates how Picton Terminals can be a critical piece to improving Canada’s supply chain. The CMC report has revealed that expanding Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) container clearance services to Picton Terminals and 5 other Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Seaway ports would :
- create tens of millions of dollars in regional economic development opportunities across Canada,
- generate significant new tax revenues,
- see all federal investment fully recouped in a matter of months ⚓️ 📈

Eastern Ontario is a vital link in Canada’s supply chain, home to Picton Terminals Ltd. and the Port of Johnstown, and directly connected to Toronto and Montréal via Highway 401.
Our region is a natural trade and transportation hub within the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence corridor.

Picton Terminals is honoured to be featured in the National Post article highlighting our transformative port expansion, and our part in the St Lawrence Seaway's 3 billion tonnes of cargo (valued at $450 billion ) moved since the Seaway opened in 1959.

Today, FWS invited me to climb the stairs and view our port lands from the top of the Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited silos. What a view ! I drone our property from that elevation but having the opportunity to stand at that elevation was exhilarating !
