Congratulations to this year’s KTG Scholarship recipients!

The KTG Scholarship has been providing support to the children of our employees as they pursue their education since 2019. This year, 10 students who were excited received scholarships to assist with their post-secondary studies.

We’re honoured to support our employees and their families as they start their studies. Good luck to all the students throughout the year!

During one of the hottest days of the year, we're making a new winter driving training video. At KTG, learning never stops, and driver training grounded in real-world experience helps our team stay safe on the road. Our Safety team produces educational content for our 6 carriers in Ontario, Quebec and California that is up to date with current regulations, accounts for regional differences, and is relevant to the season. We combine video and telematics from our systems and driver interviews to coach our fleet to anticipate and react to road hazards and bad weather to ensure that they, other people on the road and freight make it to their destinations without incident. Our carriers' record shows the results with recognition as some of the safest fleets on the roads of North America.

The Globe and Mail has been conducting a deep investigation into safety, labour practices, and regulatory oversight in Canada's trucking industry and is telling Canadians what we, the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Ontario Trucking Association, have been saying for years. A lack of oversight and enforcement is a risk to the safety of our roads and integrity of our supply chain.

Our team shows that professional drivers take real pride in their work. They deserve to work for companies that invest in training, keep their equipment in good shape, follow the rules, and treat everyone fairly and with respect.

Every year, our companies invest thousands of hours in driver training, preventive maintenance, safety coaching, and professional development. These efforts have earned us recognition as Top Fleet Employers, Best Fleets to Drive For, TCA Elite Fleets, and national Fleet Safety Award winners. More importantly, they help our people build long careers and give our customers confidence that their freight is in good hands.

The Globe and Mail has done excellent work telling the story of the Driver Inc. scheme that has been a plague on the Canadian trucking industry for years. By misclassifying the employment status of drivers, these predatory companies and owners have robbed their staff of basic employment protections, old-age pension payments, workers' compensation and taxes from the pockets of Canadians. They have also endangered our roads by cutting costs in maintenance, safety, and training.
Carriers who follow the rules, treat their staff and the roads with respect and care have suffered an unfair competitive environment. While the cheaters have profited by cutting employment costs, honest companies have had to operate in an artificially low market.

Thank you to the Globe and Mail for paying attention, to the Canadian Trucking Alliance for their tireless efforts and to the Government of Canada for taking action.

Trucking is an essential industry that underpins the Canadian economy — and was once a path to middle-class life for drivers. But a Globe and Mail investigat...
