Victoria International Airport (Airport Code: YYJ) is the 10th busiest airport in Canada with over 1.5 million passengers per year. Victoria is well served with more than 120 daily flights throughout North America. The Victoria Airport Authority is a not-for-profit authority that manages the safe and secure operations of the Victoria International Airport on behalf of the surrounding communities. The drive to or from the airport takes you past the resort town of Sidney-by-the-Sea, the countryside of North Saanich, and Districts of Central Saanich and Saanich. The terminal itself is small enough to be ultra convenient yet, very modern as extensive improvements and upgrades have been completed over the last five years. Information on flight times, airlines, food service, shopping, currency exchange, parking, ground transportation, and other passenger services is all available on the website.

Passengers, visitors and members of the community may notice increased emergency response activity at and around the airport throughout the day. This may include emergency vehicles, first responders and volunteers participating in realistic exercise scenarios.

This is a planned exercise. Airport operations are not affected.

Full-scale exercises are an important part of YYJ’s emergency preparedness, allowing airport teams and our partners to test response plans, practise coordination and strengthen our readiness for a real emergency.

Thank you to our passengers and community for your understanding while this important training takes place.

Today, YYJ was proud to help es**rt the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock riders into Sidney!

These riders are travelling across Vancouver Island, raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research.

We’re cheering them on, every kilometre of the way.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — a day to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home.

At VAA, reconciliation is an ongoing commitment. Our Friendship Agreement with the W̱SÁNEĆ Nations reflects a shared commitment to a relationship grounded in respect, cooperation and partnership — and to meaningful action throughout the year.

Today, we reflect on why this work matters and the role we each play in advancing reconciliation.

It’s Canadian Airports Safety Week, and today the YYJ team did our annual FOD Walk to help keep our airfield clear and safe.

FOD (Foreign Object Debris) is any object on the airfield that shouldn’t be there, like rocks, loose hardware, and other stray debris. Keeping the airfield clear of FOD is a big part of our daily commitment to safety.

While we come together for this FOD Walk annually, FOD inspections are completed multiple times each day because safety is always our first priority.

Thank you to everyone who took part today and to our entire YYJ community for continuing to put safety first!
