First Sail of the season!
Destination Galiano Island.
Moored out in Montague Bay Park for a night.
Some great crew onboard.
My trusty diesel mechanic Dick ( Richard Seller ) and my good friend Sarah Day whom had not been out sailing before.
Not much wind first day, which of course gave me a good opportunity to put Sarah on the helm and go through my rigging and smooth out some issues I'd been having. We had a wonderful evening walk on Galliano exploring the woods and the beach there, which looked like a tropical beach with all its white sand and beautiful green waters.
Sarah and I attempted to go for a little swim but looks can be deceiving and as tropical as it looked it felt as frigid as the Arctic so we retreated quickly back to the nice warm sand.
Then back to "Mimy" for some tacos and exploding kittens! LoL 😂
Even though it was quite chilly outside it stayed nice and warm in the cabin for everyone!
We had a nice lazy morning and got off the mooring ball around noon. Just in time for the wind to kick up and give us a little bit of a fun on the way back!!

That time I was a Dinghy Dealer!
Soooo figuring out the best Tender set up for the boat.
First it came with a little stained old peeling Walker Bay RIB And 5 hp kicker.
Not my favorite!
I fantasize about a large motor powerful enough to get on plane with a boatload of gear and folk and split the waves!!!
Hahha
So I decided to buy the newer dinghy on the trailer...
I trusted the guy that it was solid hull... Had a center console and a 20 HP motor.
Until I realized that the motor couldn't be taken off the back because the steering arms were permanently attached. The solid hull he was talking about was a wooden floor and a soft bottom not my favorite either... The thing weighed a million pounds and was a bit waterlogged.
Live and learn to pay more attention and trust less...
Round three...
I find a solid aluminum hull rib with a 25 horse on the back..
That was a fun boat to drive Holy cow it ripped..
It reps so good I was pretty scared that I'd fly right off of it so I sandbagged the nose hoping that that would help me out a little but I just don't weigh enough..
And the motor was so heavy it wouldn't fit on the rails on my sailboat so dangling behind in the davits was all this weight and this wildly heavy engine bobbing about in the waves also not my favorite setup and a little scary...
Round four..
I decide to sell the motor and replace it while keeping the RIB. I got myself a 15 horsepower electric start Suzuki that just barely fits on the rails but it's not too heavy It seems to go up on plane just fine gives me all the power that I need in the waves and doesn't feel overwhelming I'm pretty happy with this setup...

Sooooo... When I first got her.. I had the thorough inspection done and had my attention brought to a few main issues.
One of these was the prop strut mount was delaminated from the hill and oozing water!!! Not Good!
Soooo...

Steering, hot water, and diesel heater...
And taking the time to search out the internal attachment for my prop strut as it is loose and needs to be replaced I spent some time in the bowels of the boat taken a good look at my to-do list in the making...

A little boat tour now that I'm all ready for the season. I had taken a bunch of things out so I could paint the inside of the boat and do some maintenance. So it feels good to be back in my cozy zone!

Living aboard my sailboat has been a dream of mine for many years. And finally being able to realize that dream has been an interesting journey. It's quite romantical absolutely. The freedom in it also feels fabulous. There is also all of the background things that you don't see and you don't realize until you're in it and doing it. There's a lot of work that goes into it there's a lot of learning to figure out all the systems and maintenance required as well as just the struggle to maintain assemblance of normality within this extraordinary journey.
Recently I had an incident which led to the boat getting full of mold. So of course you clean. I also ended up removing all of the carpet on the inside of the hulls of the sleeping berths, to eliminate any chance of mold spore remaining on board after the clean. Getting the carpet removed all of the foam backing and the glue was a journey that I hired somebody to do because it was beyond my physical capabilities currently. But that's expensive so a lot of work I've been doing myself and thank goodness I've got good friends who've come out to help as well. It really is amazing to see who your friends are when you're down in the dumps.
Last night I spent most of the night desperately trying to get primer on the raw glass where the carpet used to be. You know it seems like it would be a simple enough task and I worked construction for a number of years so it's not rocket science. But it's interesting how we overestimate our capabilities in some situations. So my hand and arms decided that they wouldn't hold the paintbrush anymore about 3 hours in. And so I had to duct tape the brush to my hand just to try and get it done. Then I ran out of paint at the last square foot of surface to be done haha life's like that on a boat I tell you.
I've also been struggling with bronchitis for a little while so it's exhausting when you're not getting enough oxygen and wearing one of those ventilator masks is insane.
Not that any of this is a complaint Just a realistic version of what the romantic living on a boat actually looks like....
I still love it and I'm still dedicated to it and I am also learning to slow down and that things take way longer than you could imagine. Also I'm learning to be very diligent with my maintenance routines that ensure everything is running the way it's supposed to and nothing gets out of hand like this did.
I have made this page for those of you who are interested in following this journey and seeing where it goes. I have no idea where I'm going and I am excited to find out as well!

Strut restuffed, through hull removed, 3 through hulls replaced, ReVamp of forward waste system, New Bilge Pump, larger air intake for engine compartment, New Antifouling!! HUZZAH!!! 🎈🎉🙌😁

Clean up day!! Scrub up the tender, get it up and running.
Clean out and reseal wet locker.
Scrub MiMy till she shines like a diamond!!
