Not every travel story ends the way we planned it would...
Earlier this week, two of my clients were travelling internationally when an unexpected health issue meant their trip had to come to an abrupt end.
Suddenly, there were flights to change, a different airport to fly home from, a hotel to arrange, mobility assistance to arrange and confirm, and a whole bunch of little details that needed sorting out.
But while they were focused on what mattered most, getting through a scary and stressful situation and taking care of each other, I could work quietly in the background and take care of everything else.
I changed their flights.
I found them a lovely hotel near the new airport they would be flying out of.
I made sure their mobility assistance was arranged and confirmed.
I arranged the details they needed to get home.
And honestly, the part that means the most to me isn't that I was able to jump into action. It's knowing that, in a really difficult moment, they weren't alone in a foreign country trying to figure everything out themselves.
Travel is wonderful when everything goes according to plan. But sometimes it doesn't. And when you're thousands of miles away from home, dealing with something you never expected, having someone who already knows your trip, knows what needs to be changed, and can simply say "I've got this part," can make a really difficult situation feel a little more manageable.
They took care of each other and I gladly took care of the rest. And that is exactly what I want my clients to know they can count on me for. π
