The Globe and Mail has done an excellent job bringing attention to the “Driver Inc.” scheme and the damage it continues to cause within the Canadian trucking industry.
For years, compliant carriers have been forced to compete against companies operating illegally and unethically by avoiding proper payroll deductions, CPP contributions, WSIB coverage, taxes, and basic employment protections for drivers.
Beyond the financial impact, these practices create serious concerns around driver training, equipment maintenance, and overall road safety. While responsible carriers continue investing in their people, equipment, and compliance programs, others gain an unfair advantage by cutting corners on the very things that keep our roads safe.
The Canadian trucking industry needs a level playing field — one that supports ethical businesses, protects drivers, and prioritizes safety for everyone on the road.
The time for action is now! As Canadians, we all need to do our part to better our roadways we all travel everyday, lives are depending on it!
