There are some rumours going around about Machu Picchu - Let's clear them up ⬇️
🏛️ Machu Picchu is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site 🌎
Since 1983, Machu Picchu has been safeguarded for its cultural and natural significance—with strict visitor limits and timed entry in place
🚫 Machu Picchu is NOT closing
Access is carefully managed to protect the site while supporting local communities across Peru and the surrounding areas. Tourism supports guides and porters, and hotels, restaurants, and local businesses (like G Adventures' G for Good projects!) 🌱
🚫 There is NO approved gondola project for Machu Picchu
While proposals have surfaced over the years, they’ve been rejected due to their impact on the site.
Some confusion comes from other projects in Peru (like Kuélap or proposed access to Choquequirao), but these are separate from Machu Picchu
🌿What is happening?
Peru continues to focus on sustainable tourism—balancing access with preservation so it can be enjoyed for generations to come
