I wanted to share an important update regarding current airline fuel shortages that are impacting some flights and travel schedules worldwide.

As of May 5, 2026, many travel insurance providers including Manulife Travel Insurance are now treating airline fuel shortages as a “known event.” This means future travel disruption claims related to this specific situation may have limited coverage depending on when insurance was purchased and the policy terms.

A few important things to know:
Airlines remain responsible for offering options such as:
• rebooking
• travel credits
• refunds (when applicable)

Clients who purchased travel insurance BEFORE May 5, 2026 may still have some disruption or misconnection benefits available depending on their policy.

Clients purchasing insurance ON or AFTER May 5, 2026 may not have coverage for disruptions specifically related to current fuel shortages, as this is now considered a foreseeable event.

Coverage varies by policy and supplier, so I strongly recommend reviewing your policy wording carefully.
