The biggest mistakes people make when planning a trip to Greece?

1) Choosing the wrong island. Greece has 227 inhabited islands and they are all different. This is often the most overlooked and the most important part of the research and planning process.

2) Trying to do too much. You spend all your time packing and unpacking. The Greeks have a saying “Siga Siga” which means slowly, slowly. Slow down and enjoy. You’ll never see it all in one trip.

3) Visiting at the wrong time of year. You can’t visit in March and expect to swim in the sea. Orthodox Easter typically marks the opening of the tourist summer season in Greece.

4) Choosing the most visited places. If you want to visit all the most touristy places, don’t expect a unique experience, you’ll be pushed through like cattle with dollar signs on your forehead. You’ll miss out on Greek hospitality or getting to learn anything about the culture.

Many Greek islands have local bus routes for visitors. The buses aren’t like the city buses we know in Canada or the US, they are air conditioned coaches. It’s often a good idea to stay in an island’s main town and to bus to beaches and other sites during the day.
