๐Ÿš›๐Ÿ” DOT Blitz Week 2024:
May 14th - May 16th ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿš›

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that the annual International Roadcheck inspection โ€“ aka DOT Week or DOT Blitz Week โ€“ will take place from May 14-16, 2024.

What can truckers expect during DOT Week?

During the International Road Verification, transporters can expect increased scrutiny from law enforcement authorities. Inspectors will be on the lookout for any violations of federal regulations related to commercial vehicles and their drivers. Truckers can expect a North American Standard Level I Inspection, which CVSA describes as a โ€œcomprehensive 37-step inspection procedure consisting of examination of vehicle components and driver documentation and requirements.โ€

Inspectors will focus on both driver and vehicle safety compliance, and some of the most common violations that are penalized during the International Highway Check include:

Hours of Service Violations: Inspectors will verify that drivers comply with federal regulations related to driving and rest periods.

Equipment Violations: Inspectors will verify that commercial vehicles are in good operating condition and that all necessary safety equipment is present and functioning properly. Please note that this yearโ€™s focus is on tractor protection systems and possession of alcohol and controlled substances.

โš ๏ธ Drug and Alcohol Violations: Inspectors will verify that drivers are not operating commercial vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

โฃโฃ Our goal isnโ€™t just to pass inspections but to exceed standards. Letโ€™s use this DOT Blitz as a reminder of our year-round commitment to excellence and safety.

Stay safe, drive smart, and letโ€™s show them how itโ€™s done! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿš›

As the season changes and daylight hours extend, truck drivers must adapt their strategies for safe and efficient journeys. Here are three essential tips to help you navigate the roads effectively during the spring season:

โฐ Time-Savvy Routes
Optimize routes during spring with longer daylight hours. Plan for efficient deliveries and strategic breaks to enhance productivity.

๐ŸŒ… Early Starts, Safe Travels:
Begin journeys early to maximize daylight visibility, ensuring safer driving conditions and minimizing risks during dusk.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธAdapt to Regional Changes
Stay flexible across regions with varying daylight durations. Adjust your schedule to align with local time zones for optimal driving conditions.

Fuel costs remain a significant part of operational budgets for fleets. ๐Ÿš› Implementing practical strategies can enhance fuel efficiency and reduce costs. Here are five proven methods:

๐Ÿ“Š Incorporate Telematics Solutions: Monitor driver behaviors with tailored telematics solutions, tracking data such as harsh driving events, speeding, and excessive idling. Potential fuel savings range from 60 to 70%.

โ›ฝ Minimize Daily Refueling Occurrences: Monitor driversโ€™ fill-up frequency to avoid unauthorized charges. Establish limits on fleet cards for per transaction, daily, and weekly refueling.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Implement Fleet Routing Solutions: Ensure drivers follow optimized routes with less traffic and flat roads. Partnering with a routing service enhances productivity, reduces operational costs, and provides turn-by-turn instructions.

In conclusion, a holistic approach integrating technology, driver engagement, and strategic decision-making is essential to reduce fuel spending. Adopting these strategies helps fleets cut costs and contribute to a more sustainable future. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ก

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has scheduled this yearโ€™s Brake Safety Week for Aug. 20-26 with a focus on brake lining/pad violations.

During Brake Safety Week, commercial motor vehicle inspectors highlight the importance of brake systems by conducting inspections of their components and removing commercial motor vehicles found to have brake-related out-of-service violations from our roadways until those violations are corrected.

FMCSA recommends a fully loaded truck on the highway needs over 200 yards of stopping distance in good weather.

Ensure you're far enough behind traffic to make an emergency stop if needed, and be aware of tailgating cars to your rear. To help you decide how much space to leave between you and other vehicles, identify a fixed object like a road sign or building, then when a the vehicle passes the object, start counting and stop once you pass it in order to estimate the necessary stopping distance.
