Please keep an eye out for Ryan Mazar if you are going out on your boat. Be safe, everyone.

On April 22, 2025 at approximately 6:15 p.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a report of an unoccupied boat in the ocean at Finlayson Arm.

Police determined there were 3 occupants on the boat who were thrown over board during a boating accident.

One man, 43-year-old Ryan Mazar, has been declared missing.

Two occupants of the boat, a mother and infant, were located on shore and rescued. They were taken to hospital to receive care.

In case you haven't heard, prawning is open! Grab your traps and get your boat in the water.

Our 24' and 18' slips are full for April but our launch ramp is open for day use. Prawn bait sold in the gas shack. Call the office if you have any questions! 250-478-4407

It’s expected to dip into the negative temperatures this weekend! We will be turning the dock-water OFF if that happens. It will be back on when the temperature rises. ❄️Stay warm!❄️

Prawning in the Saanich Inlet will be closed until April 01, 2025. So be sure to get the last of your holiday-prawns before Dec 31! 🦐🦐🦐

🦐Important notice for all fishermen in the area! Pulse fishing is in effect until the end of the year. These closures are important to protect and conserve the prawns during their spawning cycle and will likely continue into the new-year (Jan – Mar).
This post has been adapted from the DFO Canada “2024/25 PULSE FISHING” Closures of Recreational Harvest of Prawn and Shrimp” which can be found on the DFO website. This is an annual closure schedule and any changes or updates will be posted on the DFO website, but we will try to post them here as well for your convenience.
There will be similar closures in Stuart Channel (subareas 17-5, 17-6, and 17-9) and Alberni Canal (subareas 23-1, 23-2, and 23-3).

Wow! This was an unexpected pull. This Wolf Eel seems to have lost his way and squeezed into Bob's trap, but after a few photos he was carefully released back into the Saanich Inlet.
