Costa Rica for Travelers with Mobility Challenges: My Perspective
One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "Can I travel to Costa Rica if I have mobility challenges?" My answer is yes—with the right planning.
Costa Rica is an incredible destination, but it's important to understand that accessibility varies from place to place. Its beautiful landscapes include mountains, rainforests, beaches, and nature reserves, so some areas are naturally more challenging than others. That's why I believe choosing the right accommodations, transportation, and excursions is so important.
When I plan a Costa Rica vacation for my clients, I look beyond the brochure. I recommend properties that offer accessible rooms, ramps, elevators, and easy access to amenities. I also work with trusted local partners who understand accessibility and can arrange private transportation and tours that suit each traveler's individual needs.
If you're looking for the most accessible areas, I often recommend Guanacaste for its beautiful beaches and modern resorts, Arenal for its accessible hot springs, gardens, and scenic experiences, and Manuel Antonio, where you can enjoy wildlife viewing and some accessible trails while surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.
Not every activity in Costa Rica requires strenuous hiking. Some of my favorite recommendations include wildlife river cruises, coffee plantation tours, birdwatching, relaxing in natural hot springs, scenic drives, and guided nature experiences that allow you to enjoy the country's incredible biodiversity at a comfortable pace.
My goal is to make sure you experience the very best of Costa Rica without worrying about the logistics. By asking the right questions and planning every detail in advance, I can help create an itinerary that fits your comfort level, mobility, and travel style.
I truly believe Costa Rica is a destination that can be enjoyed by many travelers, regardless of mobility. With thoughtful planning and realistic expectations, you'll discover why so many people fall in love with this remarkable country.
If Costa Rica has been on your wish list, let's have a conversation. Together, we'll design a vacation that lets you experience the country's incredible wildlife, warm hospitality, and the true meaning of Pura
