We only met one other group going the same way on this trail in 4 days! Had the beaches to ourselves but there is a catch! 🤣👇🏖
👉 DAY 1: Shushartie Bay to Skinner Creek 🏕
🛥 Water taxi from Port Hardy to Shushartie Bay
12 hours of assault course through a muddy bog, bushwacking and climbing over fallen trees and overgrown roots.
👉 DAY 2: Skinner Creek to Tripod Beach (not official site) 🏕
🚠 Easy start and cable car crossing across the Creek, but once again such difficult terrain prevented us from making it in time for the tides & camped unplanned at Tripod Beach. Had to wait for tides to fully come in before setting up camp and doing our own Bear cache.
👉 DAY 3: Tripod Beach (unofficial) to Cape Sutil 🏕
Once again tides were not in our favour so had to climb over each steep headland with ropes & mud.
👉 DAY 4: Decided to cut the trip short and exit at Cape Sutil where the last water taxi is available for some time. 4 days of rain were due and the terrain was already so difficult, we decided it wouldn't be worthwhile and was safer to exit.
🛥 Water taxi back to Port Hardy and we're chased by dall's porpoise and humpback whale made an appearance 🐳🐬
This hike was significantly more difficult than we anticipated and we have all done backpacking trips previously including the West Coast Trail. This is even less maintenance and more of a mud bog.
