For years, responsible carriers across Canada have been sounding the alarm about labour abuse, wage theft, employee misclassification, and regulatory failures that continue to undermine our industry.

At Don Anderson Haulage, we remain committed to operating ethically, complying with all labour and tax laws, and advocating for a level playing field where workers are treated fairly and legitimate businesses can compete without being undercut by bad actors.

The widespread use of the "Driver Inc." model by predatory carriers has contributed to the erosion of industry standards, harmed professional drivers, and created unfair competitive advantages for companies willing to ignore the rules. Industry advocates have long argued that these practices contribute to wage theft, worker exploitation, and weakened oversight.

We encourage everyone in the transportation industry—drivers, carriers, customers, policymakers, and the public—to take the time to read the investigative series published by The Globe and Mail in partnership with the Canadian Trucking Alliance. The series shines a light on the challenges facing our industry and the urgent need for stronger enforcement and accountability.

Together, we can help restore professionalism, fairness, and integrity to Canada's trucking industry.

Today marks one year since the sudden passing of a very treasured employee and friend.

While Dave's passing left a huge void both personally and professionally, we also experienced moments of comfort and warmth this past year as we remembered Dave.

As we mark this anniversary we want Dave's family to know that he lives on in spirit and memory here at Don Anderson Haulage and although we mark the day he left, we continue to focus on all the days Dave was here.

Cheers Dave, may you always rest in peace.

The Search is ON!! Looking for our new Director of Safety.

With safety being transferable amongst so many industries, why choose heavy specialized transportation and rigging? And more importantly, why Anderson’s? Well, the answer is two-fold. Firstly, we are proud of our industry and the role we play in it. In such a niche and exclusive corner of the transportation market we see so much diversity in job scope, incredible feats of machinery and engineering and enjoy the pride and self-satisfaction that comes with knowing we are in a very small and exclusive group of professionals who can do what we can do.

But here is where we stand out from the rest. Despite having been at this for over 60 years, we have experienced tremendous growth and expansion during the last few years. And because of that growth, we’re ready to revamp our safety structure to make it the best in the industry. This is where you come in.

We require a Director of Safety for the following, but not limited to:

• Develop, implement, and maintain best-in-class safety standards through modern safety techniques, rules and regulations, and instructions to ensure that staff are fully trained and briefed.
• Maintain COR certification.
• Establish a system to record, monitor and train all operating staff on their vocational skills and competencies.
• Compile project records and provide site specific safety plan submissions.
• Operate as the key functional expert and advisor on all aspects of safety and best work practices while meeting industry demands, new trends and company culture.
• Ensure team members consistently receive timely, responsive, and accurate functional advice.
• Incident Management: investigate accidents, operating incidents, and dangerous occurrences to determine causes, establish trends and transferable lessons, then advise remedial action and ensure implementation and follow through.
• Responsible to monitor trend data and KPI’s through regular checks and balances, ensuring compliance with systems, processes and procedures, and regulations is achieved and maintained.
• Lead the production of a management system to ensure that all operational competencies and risks are assessed and monitored to ensure compliance with all legislation and regulations.
• Responsible for checking, writing, updating, and implementing safety processes and procedures.
• Organize and facilitate worker trainings, presentations, and maintain records for such.
• Build, manage and coach support staff for driver training, driver management and recruiting.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Completion of a degree in Engineering, NCSO, or a related discipline OR a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• Self-starter who takes the initiative to set and achieve pertinent objectives and goals.
• Business professional with highly developed interpersonal skills with the proven ability to engage, motivate and lead.
• Significant demonstrated expertise and experience in a safety-oriented leadership role.
• The ability to influence decision makers and the front-line worker mentality and behaviour.
• Experience in construction, transportation, and/or rigging an asset.
• Extensive expertise in risk assessment and accident investigation, recreation, and review.
• Strong knowledge of all legislation and regulatory rules and procedures.
• Accredited or otherwise qualified to assess construction, transportation and/or crane and rigging operations.
• The ability to communicate ideas, thoughts and new concepts in a way that motivates and engages staff.
• Ability to foster a positive team culture that encourages others to contribute and form a commitment to actions.

Benefits:

• Full Health, Dental, Vision, Life, LTD, OOC, and EAP
• Company contribution RRSP program with no yearly cap
• Discretionary Bonuses
• Enhanced vacation eligibility
• Competitive Wages (based on experience)
• Flexible remuneration package
