There is something about the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival that goes far beyond the performances, the parade, the food, or the celebration.

For me, the most meaningful sight is always our children and younger generationโ€”their smiles, their excitement, and the way they experience a little piece of the Philippines right here in Manitoba. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Many of them are growing up thousands of kilometres away from where their parents or grandparents once called home. Yet through celebrations like this, they get to experience our music, traditions, food, language, hospitality, and that unmistakable Filipino sense of community.

And that is why events like this matter.

Tito Ley mention that this may be their last, and while I deeply respect whatever the future may hold, a part of me sincerely hopes that the legacy they have built will continueโ€”and eventually be passed into the hands of the next generation.

Because what has been created here is more than an annual festival. It is a bridge between generations. It keeps our heritage alive while giving our young people something they can proudly carry forward.

And what a celebration it was today!

Ms. Rachel Alejandroโ€™s performance brought back so many wonderful, nostalgic memories. The parade was full of life and Filipino pride. And those fireworksโ€”WOW! For a few moments, it honestly felt as though Disney brought a little of its nighttime magic all the way to Winnipeg. ๐ŸŽ†โœจ

But behind everything we enjoyed today are countless people who worked, planned, volunteered, supported, sponsored, performed, and showed up year after year.

To the organizers, volunteers, performers, sponsors and everyone behind the Manitoba Filipino Street Festivalโ€”maraming, maraming salamat.

Thank you for creating a place where our seniors can remember, our families can celebrate, our children can discover their roots, our businesses can connect with the community, and people from different walks of life can simply come together as one.

Today reminded me that culture survives when we continue to share itโ€”and legacy lives when the next generation is given something worth carrying forward.

This is more than a Filipino festival.
