๐๏ธ Dolly Parton Dies Aged 80
The world has lost one of country musicโs greatest voices. Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her family has confirmed.
Across a remarkable career spanning almost six decades, Dolly gave the world songs including Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors and I Will Always Love You, while becoming equally admired for her humour, generosity and philanthropy.
Ireland held a special place in her story. Dolly spoke proudly of her Irish roots and of the connection she felt with Irish audiences. During a holiday in Kerry in 1990, she famously found herself in Pรกidรญ ร Sรฉโs pub in Ventry, where she gave an impromptu performance of Coat of Many Colors with musicians Steve Cooney and Sรฉamus Begley. She later revealed that she still kept the Kerry jersey Pรกidรญ gave her framed at home.
She also wrote the song We Irish, and often spoke about the shared love of storytelling that connected the music of Ireland with the songs she grew up hearing in the Smoky Mountains.
A songwriter, storyteller and extraordinary entertainer whose music reached generations around the world.
