Udawalawe National Park – A Wild Paradise in Sri Lanka 🐘🌿

Udawalawe National Park, located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, is one of the island’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries. It was established in 1972 and covers an area of about 30,800 hectares. The park was created mainly to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir.

🌳 Landscape and Beauty

The park’s landscape is a mix of grasslands, scrub jungles, and riverine forests with the scenic Udawalawe Reservoir at its heart. The dry climate and open plains make it easy to spot wildlife, offering photographers and nature lovers incredible views throughout the year.

🐘 Wildlife

Udawalawe is most famous for its large elephant population — one of the best places in Asia to see wild elephants up close. Visitors can often see entire herds bathing, feeding, and roaming freely.

• Water buffalo, sambar deer, and spotted deer
• Wild boars and crocodiles

The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is one of the most sacred sites in Sri Lanka, located in Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage City. It is renowned for housing the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, which is considered a symbol of sovereignty and spirituality in Sri Lanka.

Key Features of the Temple:
1. Architecture: The temple showcases traditional Kandyan architectural styles with intricate woodwork, paintings, and golden embellishments.
2. Sacred Relic Chamber: The tooth relic is kept in a golden casket, displayed in a chamber that is heavily guarded and only visible during special rituals.
3. Daily Rituals: The temple conducts daily rituals called “Thevava”, which include offerings of flowers, incense, and music.
4. Esala Perahera: One of the grandest Buddhist processions in the world, held annually in Kandy, features the relic being paraded on a decorated elephant.

Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings reach USD 181 million in September

Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange revenue from tourism has reached USD 181 million within the month of September this year.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), this revenue represents a significant increase compared to September of last year, which saw USD 152 million in tourism earnings.
