We were delighted to host H.E. Patrick Van Gheel, Ambassador of Belgium to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, together with a Belgian diplomatic and economic delegation at Bertschi in Dürrenäsch. 🇧🇪🤝🇨🇭

The Ambassador was joined by Michelangelo Temmerman, Diplomatic Advisor at the Belgian Embassy in Bern, Luc Fabry from Flanders Investment & Trade, and Terence Zeyer, Senior Investment Advisor representing the Walloon Region.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange on the strong economic ties between Belgium and Switzerland, and on the important role Belgium plays within Bertschi’s European logistics network.

📍 At the Port of Antwerp, in the heart of Europe’s largest integrated chemical cluster, Bertschi operates the AZT trimodal chemical terminal and Plastics Hub. AZT offers 2,500 TEU of container storage capacity, including 1,290 TEU for dangerous goods, as well as steam, warm-water and electric heating and direct connections by rail, barge and truck. 🚆🚢🚛

Our Plastics Hub provides additional capacity for 2,000 30' box containers and 50,000 tonnes of bulk storage, together with services including container decanting and liner installation.

From Antwerp, we support door-to-door supply chains and forward stock locations across the Benelux region and throughout Europe.

Thank you to Ambassador Van Gheel and the delegation for the visit and the interesting exchange. We appreciate the opportunity to further strengthen the connections between Belgium and Switzerland. 🤝

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the leadership of our Japanese joint venture partner, the Uyeno Group, to Bertschi in Switzerland. Mr. Takashi Uyeno, Chairman & CEO of Uyeno Group, visited our headquarters together with his wife, Ms Junko Uyeno, and Mr. Yasuki Sato (Uyeno Group Managing Executive Officer, Overseas Business).

During their visit to our headquarters in Dürrenäsch, we exchanged views on our collaboration, and discussed the continuous development of our joint business in Japan. We also had the chance to spend some time together outside the office, with a visit to Lucerne. 🏔️

Uyeno brings more than 150 years of experience in logistics, energy and chemicals businesses in Japan. Our joint venture, Uyeno Bertschi Logistics Solutions, has been operating in Tokyo since January 2024, combining Uyeno’s strong local market expertise with Bertschi’s global ISO tank container network. 🌏

Together, we are developing international tank container solutions for Japanese customers and multinationals, from port-to-port transport to integrated door-to-door logistics connecting Japan with markets around the world. 🚢🚆🚛

🤝 Thank you to our partners at Uyeno for the visit and the continued close collaboration.

Low water levels on the Rhine continue to affect freight transport between the Benelux region, Switzerland, and southern Germany.

The Rhine is an important transport corridor for the chemical and industrial sectors. When water levels fall, inland vessels have to reduce their loading capacity, limiting available transport capacity and increasing costs.

At Bertschi, we are currently seeing a noticeable shift from inland waterway transport to combined rail transport. 🛤 This has resulted in increased rail volumes from Belgium and the Netherlands towards Switzerland and southern Germany. 🚂

🌦 Recent rainfall has brought some relief, but water levels remain low and the situation continues to affect European supply chains. We are closely following developments and adapting transport solutions where possible.

We're on board an Arctic exploration!

On August 22, PANSTAR ACRO set sail from Busan on South Korea’s first container trial voyage through the Northern Sea Route. On board: Bertschi ISO tank containers bound for Gdansk, Poland.

The voyage takes the vessel through the Bering Sea and Arctic waters along Russia’s northern coastline before calling at Felixstowe, Rotterdam and Gdansk. The planned transit from Busan to Rotterdam is 19 days, compared with around 30 days through the Suez Canal and 40 days around the Cape of Good Hope.

For Bertschi, this voyage combines a spirit of exploration with a clear operational purpose: gaining first-hand experience of the route and assessing schedule reliability, equipment condition and handling, regulatory requirements, and overall operational viability.

This is a trial, not the launch of a regular Bertschi service. But every new transport corridor begins with a first voyage.

Tank containers need to be inspected and maintained throughout their service life. But what happens when work needs to be carried out inside one? 🔍

A tank container can be a confined space, with limited entry and exit, possible product residues, low oxygen levels, and gases that may not be visible.

🦺 Before anyone enters, Bertschi’s Global Maintenance & Repair Team first considers whether the task can be completed safely from outside, for example using remote inspection tools. When internal access is required, the team follows defined procedures, including oxygen monitoring, appropriate protective equipment, and the Bertschi buddy system.

Safe tank container maintenance depends on the right equipment, trained people, and procedures that are followed consistently in everyday operations. ✅

Follow Bertschi for more insights into the work behind safe and reliable tank container operations.

Efficient driving depends on the decisions made during every journey. 🚛

Through our internal Mapon evaluation, Bertschi regularly reviews economical and ecological driving performance. 🏆 Drivers who achieve particularly strong results are recognised through quarterly awards, followed by an annual evaluation celebrating consistent performance throughout the year.

The programme gives drivers regular feedback and keeps efficient driving visible across our operations. It also recognises the important contribution our drivers make to safe, reliable and responsible chemical transport every day. 🌱

👏 Thank you to all our drivers for the care and professionalism they bring to the road.
