When the “let’s just do a quick easy hike” 🥾gets wayyyy out of control
on the Highline Trail questioning your every decision that led to this moment while a mountain goat watches with zero empathy 🐐
When you have blisters forming personalities at this point. There is no snack in my bag that can save me now. Send help, or at least send trail mix. 🫠
But also... worth it. 10/10 would get lost in the sunk cost fallacy of a mountain trail again.
Some actually useful info if you’re planning your own GNP hike (learn from my chaos):
🥾 The Highline Trail is 11.6 miles one way with 830 ft of elevation gain, rated strenuous, and starts at Logan Pass
🏔️ Grinnell Glacier Trail is a 9.6-mile round trip climbing through alpine meadows to a glacier tucked into a cirque at the base of the Continental Divide
🚌 As of 2026, parking at Logan Pass is limited to 3 hours — if your hike runs longer than that, you need a shuttle reservation, and shuttle tickets are $1 and must be booked in advance on Recreation.gov
🐻 Many trails run through grizzly country — bear spray isn’t optional, it’s basic gear
🌲 If you want an easier day, Trail of the Cedars is under a mile and flat, and connects to Avalanche Lake for a 6-mile roundtrip with shade most of the way
📍 GNP has over 700 miles of trails across just over a million acres — so “quick easy hike” is doing a LOT of lying in that sentence
