12 days. One tiny corner of the map. Zero highlight-reel shortcuts. 🇨🇭💛

We fell for a painted cow wearing a flower crown outside a hotel in Gruyères (yes, we stopped just to say hi). We watched a baby cow nap like the world owed her nothing. We stood on a cliff edge in the Jura with our hearts in our throats and the whole valley laid out like a secret. We chased sunflowers through a market that smelled like hay and honey.

This isn’t the Switzerland on the postcards. It’s better — it’s the Switzerland that makes you stop mid-sentence and just… look.

Slow down. Get lost on purpose. Let a cow with a flower crown remind you why you travel in the first place. 🐄🌻

Day 11: Hills, Peaks & Melted Cheese 🏔️🧀🍫

Woke up, kissed the hills of Simmental goodbye, and drove straight into the Jaunpass like it owed us money. Green pastures turned into jaw-dropping alpine cliffs in what felt like minutes — Switzerland really said “hold my fondue” and upped the drama with every curve in the road.

Then came the real plot twist: chocolate. Because if there’s one universal truth I’ve learned on this trip, it’s that happy wife = happy life = chocolate = world peace 🍫👑. No further questions.

We rolled into Gruyères for the night — a town so small you could probably jog around it, but with a cheese fondue so good it should require a permit 🫕🔥. Bread, w**e, and pure melted glory. 10/10, no notes, would gain weight here again.

Alps by day, cheese coma by night. Living the dream. 🇨🇭✨

10 days deep in Emmental, taking the back roads 🐄🧀

Skipped the highways for the small towns today — stopped by a leather craftsman for new embroidered straps, and a coppersmith polishing bells for the next alp season. Then off to a local cheese factory for a proper tasting (that curry wheel, though 👀).

Lunch and ice cream in the middle of nowhere, where the only traffic is cows. This is what slow travel is for — the kind of quiet where even the fox and the bunny say goodnight to each other 🦊🐰🌾

9 days, south to west, and Switzerland stole our hearts 🇨🇭✨ We forged our very own Swiss Army Knife (yes, WE made it, tiny screw-ups included 🔧😅), turned into amateur artists painting wooden cows with more enthusiasm than skill 🐄🎨, and somehow got the one Swiss weather week that was actually perfect — not a drop too hot, not a shiver too cold. Basically main character energy the whole trip ☀️
Switzerland really said “I’ll plan this trip better than you ever could” and honestly? No notes. 🧡

Day 8 in Ticino 🇨🇭 — from the shores of Lake Maggiore to the vineyards on the hills, this region just keeps giving. Espresso and croissants by the water, wandering the cobblestone alleys of Ascona’s old town, and ending the day with local w**e straight from the barrel. Life is good. 🍷🏔️

Traveling with isn’t just sightseeing — it’s living every stop. Different. Unique. Unforgettable.

🏔️ 7 DAYS. TWO WORLDS. ONE ROAD TRIP DONE. 🇨🇭🇮🇹
We just drove the whole way from the Engadin to Ticino — and honestly, Switzerland never looked so different from one end to the other.
📍 Started in the Engadin
Scuol glamour, the Inn river winding through alpine meadows, mountain air at 1,800m that hits different.
🚗 Over the passes
Bernina — hairpin turns, glaciers overhead, and we pulled over every five minutes for the view.
🇮🇹 A taste of Italy
Rolled through the edge of Lake Como and Chiavenna, because the border was right there.
🌴 Ended in Ticino
Back in Switzerland but it felt like the Mediterranean: Lugano’s lakeside cafés, Lago Maggiore glowing gold at sunset.
Same country, completely different worlds — all in one Day behind the wheel. 🚙💨
📌 Route driven: Engadin → Bernina Pass → Ticino
🗻🏞️🏘️ Mountains, lakes, villages — we did it all.

Maienfeld → the yaks → over Flüelapass → Engadin.
No train windows. No “10 places to see before you die” list. Just a valley that unfolds one bend of river at a time, a family of extremely damp yaks who did not ask for my opinion but got it anyway, and a plate of cured meat that I’m fairly sure was earned, not bought.
This is the Switzerland nobody puts in the brochure — not because it’s hidden, but because you have to be going slow enough to notice it. The glacier at the end of the valley. The stream that can’t decide which way to bend. The donkey in the background who’s clearly the manager.
Heidi’s village gets you the postcard. Walking out of it gets you the actual place.
Slow travel isn’t about being a purist. It’s just that the good stuff — the yaks, the light, the way a valley opens up like a secret — only shows up if you’re moving at a pace where it has time to.
📍 Maienfeld – Flüelapass – Engadin
🐄 4/5 yaks made eye contact
🥩 0% regrets about the meat plate

Day 5: baked a Glarner Pastete with my own two hands 🥧🇨🇭 then rewarded myself with lunch + Berggeist Torte because balance, right? 😅🍰 Topped it off with a viaduct, a turquoise lake, and an obligatory “Schweiz” sign selfie on the way to hotel #5 🏔️✨ Switzerland, you’re showing off.

From orchard apples to Schlorzifladen 🍏🥧 — four days through Appenzell’s golden hills and quiet corners of Switzerland. Traveling with means being led slowly and intentionally to the places most people rush past. Sun-drenched meadows, alpine peaks at Säntis, and a Swiss you don’t usually get to see.

5am. Copper vat. Curds vs. whey. I lost. 🧀

2 days into this Switzerland trip and I’ve officially learned that cheese doesn’t just “happen” — it’s earned. Before sunrise, before coffee, before my brain was even online, a whole village was already up turning milk into magic.

Watched it swirl, watched it separate, watched months of someone’s patience start in front of me. And somewhere between the steam and the copper and the cold morning air, this trip stopped being about the views and started being about the people who make this place what it is.

10/10 would wake up early again. Would not survive as a cheesemaker. 😅

Switzerland, you’re sneaky good at making a guy grateful.
