A critical part of onboard operations relies on the generator sets.
In the photo, Caterpillar 3500 series engines are used in a diesel genset configuration.
Their role may seem straightforward, but in practice it is far more complex.

These systems generate electrical power and supply the entire vessel, ensuring continuity across all onboard functions. It’s not just about producing energy, but about maintaining it stable, consistent, and reliable over time.

The process itself is well known: electrical power is generated through the combustion of MGO or MDO. What truly makes the difference, however, is the ability to maintain that output without fluctuations, even under demanding operating conditions.

These are systems that remain in the background when everything is running smoothly, but quickly become central when operational continuity is at stake.
And this is exactly where the overall reliability of a vessel begins.

In foto motori Caterpillar della serie 3500, utilizzati in configurazione diesel genset. Il loro ruolo è apparentemente lineare, ma nella pratica è molto più articolato.

Questi sistemi generano energia elettrica e alimentano l’intera nave, garantendo continuità a tutte le funzioni di bordo e quindi non si tratta solo di produrre energia, ma di mantenerla stabile, costante, affidabile nel tempo.
