Op zaterdag 7 november laten binnenvaartbedrijven door het hele land zien hoe veelzijdig de binnenvaart is, tijdens de Dag van de Binnenvaart.

Van Loon Cruises is aanwezig in Nijmegen met The Nobleman. Bezoekers kunnen aan boord stappen, rondkijken en ervaren hoe een riviercruiseschip er vanbinnen uitziet. Van de lounge en het restaurant tot de hutten en faciliteiten aan boord.

Een mooie kans om kennis te maken met een andere kant van de binnenvaart. En misschien zelfs een inspiratie voor uw volgende reis...

Imagine stepping on board in Nijmegen, unpacking your suitcase and letting The Nobleman take you straight into the Christmas season.

From 16 to 21 December, we are sailing along the Rhine to visit some of Germany's atmospheric Christmas Markets, including Cologne, Bonn, Rüdesheim and Heidelberg. There are still rooms available for this five-night cruise, with winter cities, festive lights, comfort on board and a fully arranged experience from €990 per person.

It all started 39 years ago with Arjan and Willeke.

Arjan was the captain of the Dortsman, our very first barge, navigating the Main Channel. To pass safely under the low bridges, the wheelhouse had to be fully lowered. Meanwhile, Willeke was down in the engine room changing oil of the Deutz 545 engine and making sure everything kept running. The next day, they switched roles.

From day one, Van Loon Group was about teamwork. About getting the job done, trusting each other and taking pride in what you do. Today, that same mentality is still at the heart of the company.

What started with one small barge has grown into a family business with nine vessels: seven tankers and since three years two river cruise vessels. Across our two Van Loon companies, the entire family is now involved, each contributing in their own way, but with the same drive that started it all 39 years ago.

A lot has changed. The fleet, the people, the technology and the business itself. But the essentials haven’t: a passion for shipping and the strength of working together.

This is not your average salad on the side.

Our Restaurant Baroness takes the classic Salad Niçoise and gives it a fresh touch. Tuna sashimi, haricots verts, confit potato, egg crumble, Taggiasca olives, heirloom tomato, anchovy, basil mayonnaise and Niçoise dressing come together in a light dish full of flavour.

A reminder that dining on board can be fresh, refined and just a little surprising.

Some parts of a river make you slow down and look twice. The Schlögener Schlinge is one of them.

Here, the Danube makes an almost 180-degree turn through the hills of Upper Austria, creating one of the most remarkable bends along the route.

It is one of those moments that shows what river cruising is all about. Not just travelling from one destination to the next, but enjoying everything the river reveals along the way.

There is something about Happy Hour on the water during summer.

A tropical cocktail, a refreshing Gin-Tonic or simply your favourite drink, prepared by Ahmet or one of his fellow bartenders. Our bar team makes sure the evening starts just right.

Some guests stop by before dinner, others stay a little longer after a day of exploring. Either way, the bar quickly becomes one of those places where the best stories are shared. A good drink, great company and a view that keeps changing.

A broken night light, a routine technical inspection, engine maintenance or an unexpected issue that needs immediate attention – these are all part of a typical day for Tache Toma, one of our Engineers on board The Gentleman.

Tache has been with Van Loon Cruises during the construction of The Gentleman. Originally from Romania, he knows every corner of the ship and is responsible for everything, from the smallest technical details to the complex systems that keep the vessel running safely and smoothly.

Most of his work takes place behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout the ship. Thanks to his expertise, dedication and calm approach, both our guests and crew can enjoy every voyage with confidence.

For Chef Milivoje of The Nobleman, a great dish is all about timing, precision and attention to detail.

Every evening, together with his team, he prepares dishes that would not look out of place in a fine restaurant on shore. One of them is this season's Corn-Fed Chicken Suprême with green pea mousseline, asparagus, chestnut mushrooms and tarragon jus.
