Week 22 15.12.2025 – 28.12.2025
India: A slight improvement in sentiment, with activity primarily supported by the arrival of "Dark Fleet" vessels, which have begun filling previously empty yards. However, ongoing volatility in the Rupee exchange rate remains a hurdle for buyer confidence, leading to a more selective purchasing approach.

Bangladesh: Stagnation remains the dominant theme. Ongoing civil unrest and a lack of local demand have significantly hampered activity, with buyers clearly reluctant to enter into new deals under the current circumstances.

Pakistan: A quiet market lacking momentum. Activity was limited to small-unit deals as the market waits for larger tonnage to become available at economically viable prices. There have been no meaningful changes in pricing or overall direction.

Türkiye: Stability in both local and import pricing amid sluggish trading activity. Outlooks suggest potential downward pressure on prices in the near term unless new demand drivers emerge.

FSL Trust Bolsters Future Revenue by USD 12.3 Million Through Charter Extensions for 5 Tankers 31.12.2025

FSL Trust Management, the trustee-manager of First Ship Lease Trust, has announced a strategic agreement with James Fisher Everard Ltd to extend and amend the charter contracts for five of its product tankers. This move aims to enhance the Trust’s financial stability and secure long-term cash flows.

Agreement Details:
Charter Extensions: The agreement includes extending the charters for the tankers Speciality, Seniority, and Superiority for varying periods ranging from 5 months up to 4 years.

Operational Stability: Options to terminate the charters for Shannon Fisher and Solway Fisher have been removed, ensuring fixed employment for both vessels through 2029.

Financial Returns: These combined negotiations are expected to add approximately USD 12.3 million to the Trust’s total contracted future revenue.

Strategic Vision: The Board of Directors stated that this step aligns with its strategy to build long-term partnerships with strong counterparties, ensuring stable and sustainable income while capitalising on opportunities within the global maritime transport market.

Week 51 15.12.2025 – 21.12.2025
Last week was characterized by a sense of cautious anticipation and subdued activity across major recycling hubs. Here is a summary of the key developments:

India : The market showed marginal improvement, yet buying pace remains slow. This is due to volatile USD/INR exchange rates and uncertainty surrounding tighter sanctions on Venezuelan oil, which has raised questions about global vessel availability.

Bangladesh : The market remains under pressure. A lack of local demand coupled with political instability has dampened buyer appetite and delayed new deals. Most participants are in a "wait-and-watch" mode before confirming any price corrections.

Pakistan : Prices stayed flat with a clear absence of momentum. There are no new drivers or significant buying interest at the moment, leaving the market in a subdued state without a clear near-term direction.

Türkiye : Import prices softened slightly while local levels remained steady. The market continues its typical low-volatility trend, with participants maintaining their current positions and activity levels remaining unchanged.

Summary: Caution remains the dominant theme as the industry waits for clearer economic and political signals affecting global maritime trade.

Week 50 08.12.2025 – 14.12.2025
A Storm Hits Ship Recycling Markets
As 2025 draws to a close, global markets across various sectors continue to suffer severe repercussions, leaving the final months with a clear mark on the ship recycling agenda. Inflation has resurfaced, steel plate prices collapsed at a critical time, while the U.S. dollar keeps pressuring the currencies of ship recycling nations, amid a sharp decline in freight rates and oil futures during the fiftieth week of the year.

- Market Indicators: Broad Decline
• Baltic Dry Index (BDI): Fell by 4% to its lowest monthly level, driven by a 5.6% drop in Capesize vessels, followed by a 2.1% decline in Panamax vessels.
• Oil Prices: Futures failed to reach the anticipated $60 per barrel, closing at $57.61 with a 3% drop, amid global concerns of “excessive oversupply” according to International Energy Agency reports.

- Recycling Yards in the Indian Subcontinent
Local markets witnessed a sharp fall in steel plate prices, impacted by weaker local currencies against the dollar and declining oil prices.
• Price Collapse: After exceeding $600 per ton in January 2024, prices fell below $400 per ton by the end of 2025 across most yards in the Indian subcontinent.
- Bangladesh: Domestic Turmoil and Price Decline
Despite receiving several “green ships” at low prices, the Bangladeshi market entered a downward trajectory due to successive deliveries. The crisis deepened with rising domestic unrest ahead of final election announcements, pushing the local market further into decline alongside India and Pakistan.

- Turkey: Market Improvement
Unlike the subcontinent, the Turkish market rose compared to last week, showing improved prices and stronger sentiment during the period.

- Year-End Summary
The year 2025 proved to be difficult and disappointing for the recycling sector, as scarce supply combined with collapsing prices created a dual crisis. With the holiday season approaching, the industry now has an opportunity to reassess and prepare for the challenges of 2026.
