Winding through Jiezi Ancient Town in Chongzhou, Chengdu, the Weijiang River flows clear and cool, carrying with it a crisp breeze. With a covered bridge stretching across the water before your eyes, you can laze on a bamboo chair beneath the shade, sip a cup of tea, and relax away the afternoon. This is what August should be like — no rushing all around, just slowly daydreaming. Hidden in the town’s narrow alleyways are delicacies: cold noodles, ice jelly, fried cakes, sesame cookies, etc. Around every corner, surprises await. Red lanterns hang beneath blue-tiled roofs and bougainvillea peek out above walls — turning every casual snapshot into a movie still.
