A beautiful moment frozen in time.

With its wings fully extended and tail spread like a delicate fan, the White-throated Mountain-gem reveals the remarkable elegance of a hummingbird in flight.

𝗬𝗮 𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗶́𝗲𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶́.

El Colibrí Estrellita Garganta Morada llegó a Quinta GALEÓN el 15 de setiembre, y en solo un mes ya se ganó su lugar entre las muchas especies que tenemos aquí — nada fácil, porque los recién llegados normalmente son espantados por los demás hasta que logran establecerse.

Es de tamaño mediano, con un destello magenta en la garganta que solo se ve cuando el sol le pega justo.

Se puede ver en otras partes de Costa Rica, pero pocos lugares son tan fáciles para verlo y fotografiarlo de cerca como aquí.

Va a quedarse unos 6 meses más — normalmente anda por acá unos 7 meses en total, hasta abril o mayo, cuando empiezan las lluvias torrenciales.

𝗛𝗲'𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.

The Magenta-throated Woodstar arrived at Quinta GALEÓN on September 15th, and in just one month he's already earned his place among the many species we have here — no small thing, since newcomers usually get chased off by the others until they manage to establish themselves.

He's mid-size, with a magenta flash on his throat that only shows up when the light hits just right.

You can find this species elsewhere in Costa Rica, but few places make it this easy to see and photograph up close.

He'll be around for about 6 more months — he's usually here for around 7 months total, until April or May, when the torrential rains start.

𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲.

This little one didn't know we were watching. Wings out, feathers ruffled, completely unbothered — just doing what hummingbirds do when nobody's looking.

At 2,050 meters in Costa Rica's highlands, moments like this happen constantly. In fact, over 26 hummingbird species have already been photographed right here at Quinta GALEÓN — and this is just one of them.

You don't chase hummingbirds here. They come to you.

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. 𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆. 🐦

The 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮-𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 — one of the most sought-after hummingbirds in Costa Rica — has historically arrived at Quinta GALEÓN around September 25th and stays with us for 7 to 8 months. This year, he showed up on September 15th. Ten days ahead of schedule.

You can find this species in a few places around Costa Rica, but nowhere is it as easy to photograph as right here. Over the next couple of weeks, more individuals will keep arriving and settling in — and he'll be waiting for you all season long.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗮, 𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 — 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 — and this is one of the best places to see and photograph them.

𝗘𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗶́ 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮 (𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮) — uno de los más buscados de Costa Rica — históricamente llega a Quinta GALEÓN alrededor del 25 de septiembre y se queda con nosotros de 7 a 8 meses. Este año apareció el 15 de septiembre. Diez días antes de lo esperado.

Esta especie se puede ver en algunos lugares de Costa Rica, pero en ningún lado es tan fácil de fotografiar como aquí. En las próximas semanas van a seguir llegando más individuos — y va a estar esperándolos durante toda la temporada.
