After more than 15 years of guiding birding and nature tours across Latin America, Crescentia Expeditions has entered a new chapter.

What began as a small, conservation-minded operation based in Costa Rica has grown into a trusted partner for birders, conservation organizations, and nature groups across the region. We’ve designed and led trips for fantastic variety of groups including Audubon chapters, ornithological societies, and private travelers in some of the most biologically rich corners of the continent.

Today, we’re proud to introduce our new name and expanded platform: Flyway Birding Tours.

This isn’t just a cosmetic change—it’s a reflection of who we’ve become. Flyway Birding Tours builds on Crescentia’s foundation: small-group trips, expert guides, local partnerships, and a strong conservation ethic.

But we’re reaching further:
• More countries — including Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Panama
• New scheduled departures alongside custom itineraries
• A refined visual identity and clearer focus on connection, movement, and purpose

All current reservations and operations under Crescentia Expeditions will continue without interruption. Starting today, all new inquiries, bookings, and communications will be handled through Flyway Birding Tours.

We invite all of our past travelers, friends, and colleagues to follow us on this next step. The guides, vision, and values remain the same—only now, we carry a name that better reflects the birds we follow and the pathways we share.

Agami-mania is real! One of the most remarkable discoveries in Costa Rica’s recent ornithological history has just unfolded. After years of mystery and speculation, two major Agami Heron rookeries have finally been documented—both located in the remote lowlands of northern Costa Rica.

Elusive by nature, the Agami Heron favors secluded streams and thick understory, often remaining motionless for hours—making sightings outside nesting sites incredibly rare.

Today, we visited one of these newly discovered rookeries and were stunned to learn that just yesterday, local monitors recorded 512 active nests—each with a dedicated pair—and already 17 juveniles have been counted. Absolutely mind-blowing. Our hearts are full. 💜💙🤎

We plan to offer small private tours next year to witness this hidden gem of the rainforest—stay tuned for details!

What an incredible birding journey we had in Panama with the wonderful birders from the Lahontan Audubon Society of Reno, Nevada!

This enthusiastic group brought such great energy to every outing, and together we explored some of the country’s most iconic birding hotspots.

We kicked things off with three nights at the legendary Canopy Tower—what a place to start! From the tower’s upper deck, we spotted dazzling Blue Cotingas and had unforgettable views of a Black-breasted Puffbird. The surrounding forest was alive with activity: antbirds skulked through the understory, Red-capped Manakins gave their electric “moonwalk” displays, and we were lucky to witness a Great Potoo keeping a watchful eye on her fluffy chick.

From there, we headed to the wild, remote reaches of Darién, Panama’s final frontier. Our base was the incredible Canopy Camp, where the forest quite literally comes to you. Every day brought new excitement as we explored the surrounding rainforest, and thanks to the expertise and support of the local Embera community, we were able to reach a key nesting site and see our ultimate target: a Harpy Eagle chick! A dream species for many in the group, and a moment none of us will forget.

Along the way, we racked up an impressive list of specialties—Gray-cheeked Nunlet, Green-and-gold Woodpecker, and the boldly vocal Red-throated Caracara, just to name a few.

A huge thank you to our friends at the The Canopy Family, Panama for their warm hospitality, and to our outstanding guides, Eliecer and Igua, who made sure every day was full of discovery and fun.

Here’s to more great birding adventures ahead—Panama has set the bar high!

Just wrapped up an incredible birding trip in northern Costa Rica, custom designed for a great group of friends—wildlife photographers and nature lovers through and through.

Led by the always sharp-eyed Johan Weintz, the tour combined serious birding with a strong conservation focus and direct support for local businesses and community-run lodges.

We explored a range of habitats, from lowland rainforest to wetlands, picking up an impressive list of species along the way. The group brought great energy, sharp eyes, and a genuine appreciation for the landscapes, the birds, and the people we met.

Huge thanks to Johan for his expert leadership, and to our local partners who made the experience smooth, welcoming, and grounded in the values that matter most to us. Looking forward to the next one!

We’ve just wrapped up another incredible multi-day Southern Costa Rica Birding Tour, and we’re filled with gratitude and excitement!

Guided by our friend and extraordinary bird guide Iván Castillo, along with the expert navigation of Ramon Vargas Monge behind the wheel, this journey was both smooth and unforgettable. Our tour was specially crafted to offer a deep look into the endemic birdlife of the Talamanca Mountain Range and the Osa Peninsula, two of Costa Rica’s richest and most unique birding regions.

Trip highlights included unforgettable sightings of the Resplendent Quetzal, Turquoise Cotinga, and many other regional specialties.
We explored some of Southern Costa Rica’s most spectacular birding hotspots, including: Savegre Valley, El General Valley, Wilson Botanical Garden, Golfito, and the magnificent Osa Peninsula.

A huge thank you to all who joined us and helped make this tour such a success. We can’t wait to see you on the trail again soon!

This is WFO! That’s what Jon Dunn said on our very first bird walk together…

Right then, we all knew we were in for something special—a fresh birding adventure with our friends from Western Field Ornithologists

Throughout the trip, we explored an incredible range of habitats and landscapes. Along the way, we had the chance to visit and support two inspiring local conservation projects, as well as a handful of community-run initiatives and small businesses. Hosting programs like this—where birding meets purpose—makes us proud.

We spent plenty of time in the field, diving deep into bird ID and behavior, and had some great discussions that went far beyond the checklists. We were also lucky to have guest speakers join us, bringing new perspectives and insights that really added to the experience.

Huge thanks to everyone who made this tour run so smoothly—and to all the amazing participants who brought the energy, curiosity, and good vibes. Can’t wait to do it again!

What a rewarding experience it is to create unforgettable moments for our guests!
Over the past few days, we had the pleasure of hosting a special private group of birders and nature enthusiasts as they explored some of Costa Rica’s most remarkable natural areas.
A heartfelt thank you to our friend and exceptional guide, Anthony Arce Guido, for his dedication and care in ensuring the group had an enriching and enjoyable journey.
We’re excited to share some stunning highlights from the tour:
