As a manager, it's crucial to strike a balance between work and play. But let's be real, it's not always easy. Sometimes, work demands consume us and we forget to take a break. On the other hand, taking too many vacations can lead to neglecting our responsibilities.

That's why managing time and vacation wisely is crucial, not just for us as managers but also for our employees. After all, a healthy work-life balance is essential for productivity, creativity, and overall job satisfaction.

So, how do we do it right?

First of all, we need to set a clear work schedule and stick to it. This way, we can prioritize our tasks and make sure we're not wasting time on unimportant things. But, don't forget to take breaks and step away from the computer every once in a while. After all, a break doesn't mean you're being lazy, it means you're recharging so you can come back even stronger.

Next, we need to be mindful of our vacation time. Don't just take time off because it's there, use it wisely. Plan a vacation that not only rejuvenates you but also aligns with the company's goals and deadlines. And, don't forget to communicate your plans with your team. A little heads-up can go a long way in making sure work doesn't pile up while you're away.

Finally, encourage your employees to do the same. Lead by example and make sure they have the tools and support they need to manage their time and vacations effectively. A happy employee is a productive employee, and happy employees lead to a happy company.

Every manager has experienced this: You come into your office, maybe you got up on the wrong side of the bed, maybe you were annoyed by another driver, you have bad air in your private life and you see directly that your key performance indicators are far from the target. What does this do to you and what does this situation have to do with business results or even your key performance indicators? Well, in modern business, many managers are taught that poor metrics are automatically the fault of the team. As a result, trust in one's own employees often dwindles and the overall well-being in the department declines. And even though metrics are inherently in line with the team, the question is how best to deal with them. And one option - or rather one adjusting screw - that can be turned as head of the department is: How do I motivate and set a good example so that my team follows me? And yes - this is my actual desk.

I was confirmed in my line that the zwit invested in my department will make myself and my management skills happy. And it showed me, sometimes you just have to do what you think is right, even if you were taught differently. Because it's clear that every employee we train, challenge and then promote as managers: they will develop a quality of loyalty. And that's what distinguishes really good companies. Teams work together and care about each other, no matter how bad the KPIs and no matter how stressful the task.
